  • The Movie ‘DRY’ Will Premiere In Zambia Tomorrow!

    Hi Lovelies,

DRY has begun its African tour and we are starting with Zambia!

After two successful premieres in Lagos and Abuja, we are taking the Overall Best Movie in Africa to Zambia! I am so excited, can’t wait to see all my fans in Zambia.

Supporting this cause is the first lady of Zambia, Esther Lungu, who will be the guest of honour at the premiere. I feel so honoured to have her support. Many thanks to all the good people of Zambia who have helped in planning this event.

With DRY, the focus is on Fistula and Child Marriage as well as the underlying social issues such as maternal health, poverty and inequality. DRY has a strong message and so I’m glad that my dream of taking it across the world is coming to pass.

If you are in Zambia, join us at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka tomorrow, Saturday, April 9th for the premiere of DRY.

I really look forward to meeting you!

  • #WorldHealthDay: Working Together To “Beat Diabetes”

    Today is World Health Day!

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO). This year, the focus is on how to “beat diabetes”.

In simple terms, Diabetes is a condition that prevents the body from properly using energy from food. It occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin, or when the pancreas produces insulin, but it is resisted by the body.

Diabetes is on the rise everywhere and is now most common in developing countries.

The statistics speak for themselves. The number of people living with diabetes and its prevalence are growing in all regions of the world. In 2014, 422 million adults (or 8.5 percent of the population) had diabetes, compared with 108 million (4.7 percent) in 1980. Diabetes is rising fastest in the world’s low and middle-income countries.

The sad thing about diabetes is that when poorly controlled, it can cause complications including heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, blindness, and foot ulcers than can lead to amputations. However, many of these complications, and these premature deaths, could be prevented. A lot can be achieved by changing our lifestyles, our eating habits and our attitude towards our health.

Together, we can halt the rise in diabetes and provide care to improve quality of life for the millions of people living with the disease. Deliberate, effective responses are needed from government; health-care providers; civil society; producers of medicines, technologies and food; from people living with diabetes; and from each of us. Everyone has a role to play.

Today on #WorldHealthDay let’s pledge to make each moment count and make sure we get strong!

    Stay happy, stay healthy.

    xoxo

  • Wow! Q1 Is Gone Already!!

    Happy new month SL Fabz,

The first quarter of the year is gone and we are starting another one today! Whoops!!! How time flies.

The First of April marks the end of the three month milestone for the year. Yep, we’re a quarter of the way through the year already. A good time to review your progress relative to what you’d like to achieve over the course of the year.

How far with your goals? Any progress?

While we’re busy playing the April fool pranks, it’s also a good time to ask ourselves such important questions.

Review your goals and check how far along you are on the path towards reaching them this year. Where are you falling behind? Do your goals still make sense? What’s slowing your progress? Where did you fall short, or mess up?

If you didn’t meet your goals, or you set the wrong ones and they don’t make any sense anymore, revise them or cast them off. It’s a new quarter. If you still feel your goals are the right ones, that’s awesome.

You may not have met your goals yet, but at least you should be taking steps to meet those goals, so that you won’t arrive at December and wonder why you did not achieve what you wanted.

We should all have goals that take us closer to achieving our dreams. That is what sets us apart.

I wish us all a fruitful new month and a successful second quarter of 2016 as we work on our goals daily.

    xoxo

  • DRY, Fistula, Child Marriage & Inequality | My Twitter Conversation With Ford Foundation

    Hi SL Fabz!

Today, I had an interesting Twitter conversation with Ford Foundation on DRY and several issues the movie highlighted such as child marriage, inequality and Fistula.

Believe me, it was a very thorough one where questions were asked about the impact of the movie, the power of film making, the true stories that impacted the script for DRY and much more.

Here are some excerpts from the convo:

There is still so much more you have to read. Visit my twitter page HERE and the Ford Foundation twitter page HERE for more.

  • This Picture Made Me Laugh Out Loud!

    Babies are the cutest 🙂

A friend sent me this picture a while ago and I haven’t stopped laughing since. I can totally relate to that! It’s so funny and adorable at the same time.

Sometimes with my son #PrinceMax, it is the very moment you take off his diaper that he would decide to relieve himself. And he can do so in such an interesting angle that it would land right in your face if you’re ‘lucky’.

This is one photoshoot the little boy’s parents would never forget. The look on the mother’s face is priceless. And the cutest part will be when he grows up to see this.

Taking pictures is a great way to preserve great memories. Pictures like this remind me of such.

Any mums, dads, aunties, uncles or caregivers in the house? Please share some stories of interesting moments like this with your little ones that made you laugh out loud. Or perhaps, do you have any childhood photo where you were doing something really funny. Let’s hear your story!

  • Good Friday Greetings

Good Friday marks the slaying of our Jesus
The unblemished lamb, the perfect sacrifice
He took our guilt and blame upon Himself
So we could be with Him in paradise.

    On This Holy Day
May His Light Guide Your Path
May His Love Grace Your Heart
And May His Sacrifice Strengthen Your Soul!

Thinking of You on Good Friday
and praying that the Lord keeps you
    in his Loving care always

    GOOD FRIDAY!

  • It’s All About Peace

    Hey lovelies,

It’s been an interesting week so far, however, the news of election violence and loss of lives in Rivers state has been very sad. We can’t continue to loose our promising youth every time there is an election in this country. Surely, we must continue to educate each other and create more awareness against election violence.

Nigerians and indeed the International Community must SPEAK to say NO to Election violence!!! We must insist on One Man One Vote and violence free elections!!!

Say no to hooliganism and election violence, don’t be a tool, you’ll be used and dumped. Also, say no to post election violence.

I choose to say no to election violence. I choose PEACE.

Let’s not only say no to physical election violence but oral violence as well. We can disagree without verbally assaulting each other.

There will be more elections across the country in the coming months and I can only hope we carry them out in peace and respect for one another.

    Stay peaceful.

  • Hey, Let’s Answer These 5 Interesting Questions Together!

    Hey SL Fabz,

I trust you’re having a beautiful Wednesday. Let’s have some fun with these questions shall we. Don’t forget to be as honest as possible. Please leave your answers in the comment section. I can’t wait to read them!

    1. If you were in a store and saw a person shoplift an expensive item, would you tell someone?
    2. If you saw your best friend’s boyfriend kissing another girl would you tell her?
    3. If you found a wallet with $1500 cash in it, would you try to return it?
    4. If your brother/sister won 3 million dollars in the lottery how much would you expect to get, if any?
    5. If your 15-year-old daughter came home pregnant how would you handle it?

    1. Well, my natural instinct at first will be to tell. But it’s tricky. What if I can’t prove it? What if the person hid it so skillfully that the shop owners can’t find it on him/her? What if there are no cameras in the store or I am made to look like a liar? I really don’t know and I hope I never find myself in that situation.

    2. This one is hard too. You might be labelled a hater for telling. Or worse, your best friend might not even believe you! I guess the rule here too is don’t tell if you can’t prove it. I once read an article on this sort of topic and the best way to deal with this is ‘show, don’t tell’. It would be much better if you can ‘show’ your best friend a real scene where her boyfriend is cheating on her, perhaps taking her to a place where you usually see them hang out, rather than ‘tell’.

    3. Oh, definitely! No use stealing.

    4. Hahaha! Sharing formula… I honestly don’t have an answer to this one. But Amen to that!

    5. This one is not funny oh! A 15 year-old girl is way too young to be a mother. She is still a child. I think what would be most important on my mind if I have a teenage daughter would be how to give her the love and guidance she needs to prevent such. But situations like this do happen quite often and that is the reality. So, yeah, that would make me really sad. However, I’d make sure I give her all the support that she needs and help her stay focused and positive.

    Now, it’s your turn. Let’s have your answers below in this order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…

  • Why It’s Important To Do YOU

Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness.

I came across this quote over the weekend and I’ve been reflecting on it for a while.

The importance of doing what you like cannot be overemphasized. Each morning when you rise, you can do one of two things:

    • Look forward to the day with anticipation and joy
    • Dread what the day holds in store

Hence the importance of loving what you do. If your job or business does not involve doing something that brings you joy it’s going to be a struggle getting out of bed.

You can and should find enjoyment in your work. Doing so is very valuable to your life in many ways, including greatly increasing your probability of financial success. A job that you love gives you extra motivation to meet your goals, and when you do, the sense of accomplishment is outstanding. And not only that, you can train yourself to become better at what you do so much that you will be recognized for your work.

Let me give you a personal example. I was lucky to begin my acting career as a teenager. This was before I got into the University. Over the years I discovered a passion for film making and so I went to the New York Film Academy to develop my skills. I also learnt a lot on the job and I’m still learning everyday. It wouldn’t have been easy to come this far if I didn’t have a passion for what I do. A mixture of passion, training and continuous practice will set you apart in whatever it is you do and I am a testimony to that.

If you are passionate about your job, you are likely to take an active interest in learning every aspect of the business.

But hey, I know sometimes you may find yourself doing something you really don’t have a passion for. Sadly, many people work just to get some money to meet their basic needs without truly enjoying what they are doing.

So if your boss doesn’t appreciate you, you’re underpaid, your company isn’t ideal… that can be OK, for now. They aren’t the key evaluators in your life. YOU are. Do your job well for YOU. Even if you don’t like your specific work, or the work environment you are in, you can love the way you do it.

Be able to pat yourself on the back at the end of every day. By doing so, you also set yourself up for finding a job you will enjoy more.

Not everyone started out by doing a job they are passionate about. But whatever it is you find yourself doing, do it well and you’d be better able to handle your own thing when it comes. Put in your very best and watch your dreams grow.

So, SL Fabz, its another Monday. Let’s talk about our work, passion and interests. What are you passionate about? Are you currently doing a job you are passionate about?

    Let’s share…

    SL
