  • Watch Immaculate & Peter Get Fabulous on the Make Me Fabulous Show

You’ve seen the pictures, now it’s time to watch the video!

Immaculate and Peter Ezedinma were our guests on the fourth episode of Make Me Fabulous show and they had a swell time! From lodging at the super cool Intercontinental Hotel, to shopping at Mobos Fashion Store, a spa session at Oasis Med Spa and much more…. you bet they enjoyed every bit of their day.

    Watch the video below:

  • Episode 4 of Make Me Fabulous is Here! Meet the Ezedinma’s

Immaculate and Peter Ezedinma were one of the most lively and fun couples we had on the show!

Do you know what it’s like to be at home alone and bored for a really long time? Not a good feeling I tell you.

Immaculate was newlywed and new in the city. Soon after her wedding, she became pregnant and was bored of staying home alone all day when she first heard of the Make Me Fabulous show.

This was her comment when we first called out for entries:

My Diva, I got married last year and came to Lagos since January this year. Up till now, my husband has not taken me out for once. He is always busy with work. I am lonely and crying all day which made my Blood Pressure to rise due to my condition (I’m pregnant). Please show me love this time so that I will be happy for once.

Her story stood out to me and I desired to do something to make her really happy. But we had to wait a while ‘cos she was pregnant at the time, and so months after she had her baby, it was time for Immaculate and her husband Peter to have their day on the show!

  • #QueensYoungLeaders: Photos from My Visit to the Buckingham Palace

So I finally met the Queen of England! I guess I can add this to my list of achievements… lol! On a more serious note, I had a wonderful time yesterday at the Queens Young Leaders Award in Buckingham Palace where 60 young people across Commonwealth Nations were being honoured.

    Hubby & I were elated.

The awards ceremony, initiated in 2014 by Prince William and Prince Harry was hosted by Queen Elizabeth. Also in attendance were ace footballer David Beckham, Sir John Major, Fearne Cotton and more. You bet I got a picture with David!

I felt so proud of all the 60 young and inspiring leaders aged 18-29 who were honoured yesterday. But I felt even more proud of the 4 Nigerians Isaiah Owolabi, Kelvin Ogholi, Nkechi Azinge and Oladipupo Ajiroba who received their awards as well. These are exceptional young people doing amazing work in their communities and with support from such a platform, I’m sure they will go on to do even more inspiring works.

  • Guess Who’ll Be Attending The Queens Young Leaders Award Ceremony at Buckingham Palace Tonight?!

    Hi lovelies,

Welcome to another brand new week!

Yesterday was Father’s Day and you bet it was awesome. Congratulations again to all the wonderful Dad’s out there.

I’m so excited about this week, especially about today.

You will recall that a few months ago, I was promoting the Queens Young Leaders Award on this blog while encouraging young Nigerians who are partaking in worthy leadership and charity causes in their communities to register. I’m so glad that four young Nigerian leaders were selected to receive this award. They are Isaiah Owolabi of HACEY Health Initiative; Kelvin Ogholi of UNFIRE; Nkechikwu Azinge of The Sickle Cell Aid Foundation and Oladipupo Ajiroba of The Environmental Advocacy and Management Initiative.

So today, I will be attending the award ceremony with my hubby at the Buckingham Palace on a special invitation from the Queen! Now you know why I’m excited.

Here's a copy of my invite!
Here’s a copy of my invite! Yay!!!

These four Nigerians are among 60 inspirational young people aged 18-29 across the Commonwealth who will receive their award from Her Majesty the Queen later today and will be rewarded with a bespoke package of mentoring, training and networking, which will help them realize their full potential. With this they can go on to inspire other young people to help shape the future of the Commonwealth.

I promise to bring you more gist and photos from the event later.

Log on to www.queensyoungleaders.com to get full details on the event. The social media hashtag for this campaign is #TheSearchIsOn.

    Have a fab week everyone!

  • Why It’s Necessary To Fail Sometimes

Sometimes in life, you get this moment you realize if you hadn’t failed miserably, you would have never learned your lesson.

People fail all the time – often failing multiple times at the very same things. Failing is one of the greatest things in the world, as it reminds us how imperfect we are. It reminds us how much we need to learn in order to become the people we wish to be.

Some of your largest failures in life will become your greatest assets. Some day you will realize that if you had never failed, then you would have never succeeded.

It’s when we are youngest that we learn most. Life teaches us lessons with rapid regularity. The older we get, the less frequent these lessons become. From the day you are born, all the way through your 20s is when you will decide the person you will be for the rest of your life.

The things you’ve experienced, the things you’ve tried and seen have established the core person you are right now. One day you will likely look back at it all – all the fun and all the hardship – only to accept that it all must have happened, that it was all completely necessary.

I’ve definitely had my share of failures in life, experiences that made me feel really bad at the time it happened, but later made me stronger.

SL Fabz, have you ever felt this way before? Have you ever failed at something and realized later in life how much you learned from that experience?

    Let’s share!

  • It’s The Day of the African Child

In the past 25 years, June 16 every year is celebrated as the Day of the African Child in memory of hundreds of innocent South African children who were massacred on the 16th of June 1976 by the then South African police.

Every year, we celebrate this day with different themes based on issues that concern children. The theme of this year’s celebration is very dear to me: Accelerating our collective effort to end child marriage in Africa. It’s one of the issues my movie ‘DRY‘ addresses, and something I have been very passionate about for many years.

Child marriage is defined as a marital union with a person under the age of 18years. Child marriage is a fundamental violation of human right, it leads to life time disadvantage and deprivation. Many girls are married off by their parents without their free and full consent. Most times they are married off to men old enough to be their fathers or grand fathers as 3rd or 4th wives.

Child marriage is condemned because the child is still growing and parts of her body and reproductive organs especially are not fully developed. The child is not psychologically matured to run a home; it denies the child the right to basic and qualitative education, deny them the opportunity to gain vocational and life skills , the child is exposed to health risk due to early pregnancy, child bearing and motherhood. It marks an abrupt transition into sexual relations without consent which is rape, sexual violence and abuse.

The child remains timid due to age difference, not able to make choices, develops low self esteem, self worth and low self confidence. Child marriage is a complex issue that is driven by a lot of factors in different society. It has a devastating and long term effect on the health, education, psychological, emotional mental physical development and future of the girl child.

Irrespective of the laws condemning child marriage as violation of the rights of the girl child, it is still practiced in our country. The Child Right Act of 2003 sets the national legal minimum age of marriage at 18years some states are yet to adhere.

Report has it that 43% of girls in Nigeria are married off before their 18th birthday, 17% are married off before they turn 15. The prevalence of child marriage varies widely from one zone to the other, with figures as high as 76% in the North West zone.(UNFPA 2012,UNICEF SWCR 2013 )

You’d be surprised to note that in Lagos state where people of all Nigerian tribes reside, child marriage is still being practiced in some local governments and communities. Action is needed to prevent thousands of girls from being married out before age of 18.

On this day of the African child, I urge us all to contribute our quota in stopping this act for good. Its our collective responsibility.

  • Love Don’t Cost A Thing!

Sometimes it’s hard to believe the best things in life are free. But the truth is exactly that.

Love don’t cost a thing. And neither do all the other truly important things that matter most in life. Such as Family; Hugs; Positive and creative people; Good health; Just being able to wake up to the sun shining in the morning; Our ability to empathize; Having people who never give up on you; Having good people in life who will lend you a hand…. and much more!

Material possessions are great, but happiness doesn’t come from the items we own. It comes from a child’s giggle or your mom’s cooking. It shows up on a sunny day or seeing your best friend walk down the aisle.

When it comes down to it, the riches in our bank accounts don’t compare to the actual riches we have.

On the Make Me Fabulous show which has been airing on TV for a few weeks now, we have been emphasizing the importance of love. I can’t stress this enough. Love is the foundation, love is key, everything else comes after this.

What are some of the ‘free’ things you really appreciate about your life?
