  • Can You Solve This ‘Simple’ Math Puzzle?

    At first glance, it seems easy. I calculated the answer within seconds and thought I was right. 

    This is what I did:

    3 apples = 30, so 1 apple = 10.
    10 + 2 bananas = 18, so 2 bananas = 8 and 1 banana = 4
    4 – 1 coconut = 2, so 1 coconut = 2
    Therefore, 1 coconut + 1 apple + 1 banana = 2 + 10 + 4 = 16

    But that was sooo wrong! Look closely at the image again:


    Notice that the number of bananas and coconut halves are not the same in the last question as it is in others? I totally missed that at first!

    Hi SL Fabz,

    It’s time again for us to put our thinking caps on and solve this riddle.

    I’d confess that I’ve not been able to figure out the answer to this one, but I’m gonna keep trying. Let’s see who gets it first.

    So, here’s the scenario:

    The Rabbit and Cat weigh 10kg
    The Dog and Rabbit weigh 20kg
    The Dog and Cat weigh 24kg
    What is the total weight of the three animals?

    Good morning SL Fabz!

    Let’s get our day started on a sharp note by working up our brains with this Mathematics Brain Teaser, shall we?

    OK! Here it goes:

    A girl went to school and the teacher asked ‘how old are you?’

    She replied ‘I don’t know but I know that I’m half my mother’s age’.

    The teacher asked ‘OK how old is your mother?’

    She said ‘I don’t know but I know that my Dad is 10 Years older than my mother’.

    The teacher, then asked ‘how old is your Dad?’

    She said ‘I don’t know but I know that if we add all our ages the answer is 100 yrs’…

    Now, how old is the girl, her mum, & her dad?
