It’s always such an inspiration to read the stories of brave women who do not let societal and cultural stereotypes negatively affect their success in life.
Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o who is now making waves in Hollywood is one young lady whose success I’ve been keenly following, not only because we share the same profession, but because she embodies what a true African ambassador should be.
Yesterday, Essence Magazine held its 7th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon at The Beverly Hills Hotel in LA where Lupita along with other guests such as Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Kerry Washington were celebrated. Lupita who is nominated for an Oscar for her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, was honoured at the event and she gave this amazing speech about black beauty which I’ve read over and over.
