  • Happiness Is A Choice

“Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But what you’re doing when you indulge these negative emotions is giving something outside yourself power over your happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you.” – Joel Osteen

Yesterday, I saw two men fighting on the street. It seemed they had both been queuing to buy fuel outside a petrol station and when the gate opened, they both tried to drive in a rush at the same time and their cars ended up with significant damage.

Yes, there are so many things around you that can make you angry if not properly managed. A lot of people have sad tales to tell about the direct effect of the fuel scarcity going on in most parts of Nigeria right now. Some people are frustrated at work, at peopl,e at situations, and such frustration can lead to anger if not properly managed. But if we make a conscious effort not to let little things upset us, it usually gets better for us and everyone around us.

Happiness is a choice.  For every minute you are angry or irritated, you lose 60 seconds of happiness.  Be happy.  Be yourself.  If others don’t like it, then let them be.  Life isn’t about pleasing everybody.

I hope you make a choice to stay positive minded and happy rather than angry today.

  • 5 Ways To Feel Better Today

We all love to be happier, don’t we? But sometimes, things don’t always turn out the way we want them to.

Just in case your day is not turning out as good as you want it to, take a break and try one or more of these tips to make you feel better:

    1. List your accomplishments. Go on, write them down. Everything from winning the spelling bee to completing a project on time. Write down anything you can think of that you feel proud about. Look at you!

    2. Spend time with friends and family. Social time is highly valuable when it comes to improving our happiness, even for introverts. Several studies have found that time spent with friends and family makes a big difference to how happy we feel, generally.

    3. Fix your hair and make-up. When you look your best, you see yourself differently and that would surely make you feel better and more confident.

    4. Practice smiling – it can alleviate pain. Smiling itself can make us feel better, but it’s more effective when we back it up with positive thoughts.  A smile is also a good way to alleviate some of the pain we feel in troubling circumstances.

    5. Lift someone’s spirits. You can turn around bad feelings about yourself right away when you channel your energy into making someone feel good about themselves. It’s crazy how that works but it’s totally true.

I hope these few suggestions would help you feel better if you are perhaps feeling down.

SL Fabz, what do you to to boost your spirits, and make yourself feel better when you’re having a bad day?

  • It’s Worker’s Day! Let’s Discuss Our Careers

Our careers are very important aspects of our lives.

Think about the daily struggles from working hard in a 9-to-5 job just to produce a paycheck. If we don’t get our work done, we can’t get paid, and if we don’t get paid, we can’t pay our bills, and if we don’t pay our bills, we can’t have a nice house, car and other fine things. The cycle goes on.

Or perhaps yours is a business or a project, not really a job. Whatever it is you do, it directly affects your ability to meet your needs and those of your loved ones.

Our work takes up a significant part of our day and has a significant impact on other aspects of our life, including our sense of self-worth and well being.

The question of happiness and fulfillment also comes to light in this subject. Is your career giving you the fulfillment you desire? Do you wish you were doing something else and not what you are presently doing? Does your career pay you well enough to meet your basic needs?

This is an open discussion. It’s worker’s day and I’d like to meet you dear SL Fabz. Tell me about what you do, whether you love what you do and how it affects your life.

    Let’s discuss!

  • A Reason To LIVE

Each new day is a chance to live more, and love more.

Life truly is beautiful, it just depends on the view you choose. Here is a “dangerously” inspiring quote that says:

“This life is for loving, sharing, learning, smiling, caring, forgiving, laughing, hugging, helping, dancing, wondering, healing, and even more loving. I choose to live life this way. I want to live my life in such a way that when I get out of bed in the morning, the devil says, ‘aw shit, he’s up!” – Steve Maraboli.

So, get up today with a spring in your steps and choose to live life to the fullest today!

Have a great day SL Fabz.

  • ‘Cos I’m Happy!!! A Choice You Need To Make Everyday

“Oh! Not Again!” you say – jumping off the bed, as you put off the deafening alarm on your phone. You had set it for 4 AM, your boss told you the day before about a presentation you would be taking. You mumble a few words of prayer as you take a hurried bath and hit the road. Traffic! The very thing you were trying to avoid, just as the traffic light turns green, a “crazy” woman comes from nowhere to overtake you, and gives you an irritating “tongue out” in disdain.

You finally get to the office right on time, your boss and the rest of the board members are waiting. The projector is all set, the only thing missing is the presentation which you saved on a flash drive. It is supposed to be in your purse, but you know it is not there. you had left it on the table last night, hoping you would remember to pick it up, while had your morning cereal. But of course neither of the two happened. Today is gonna be a bad day!

Some days look like everything just worked together to make you feel bad.

In the midst of all these, you have a choice:

You can choose to brood over an unhappy event all day long, or you could focus on other events that would make you happy.

Somebody might have said something hurtful or disrespectful to you; maybe your car broke down on the road, and disrupted your plans for the day. One truth is that, you might not be able to change certain events, or people’s behaviour, but you can control your reactions, your response.

Sometimes, your happiness might seemed threatened by the happiness or success of others around you. It seems everyone has something to be happy about – except you. That is not true; if you take time out to think, you have a lot of reasons to be happy. Focus on why you should be happy and not vice versa.

Change your outlook by seeing other people’s success as yours. Their happiness should not take away your own happiness. Choose to be happy every day. Try to get up early, do some exercise, get organized, speak positive words to yourself and about yourself, stay inspired!

Have a great day SL Fabz and stay happy!!!

  • What Mentally Strong People Know

We often hear advice like, “Think positive and good things will happen,” or “Try your hardest and eventually things will work out.” This works because most times, your success is directly linked to how you think.

One major fact about successful people is that they manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set them up for success in life.

We can all learn from these mentally strong people and accordingly, we can become mentally strong(er) ourselves. And when we do that we enjoy more success, happiness and less distress.

    Mentally strong people do not:

      • Quit when things get tough
      • Waste time feeling sorry for themselves
      • Blame others for their problems
      • Envy others
      • Shy away from change
      • Worry about pleasing others
      • Waste energy on things they can’t control
      • Dwell on the past
      • Go along with the crowd
      • Procastinate

    Mentally strong people do:

    • They know failure is part of success
    • They believe in themselves
    • They celebrate the success and happiness of others
    • They train their minds to see the good in everything
    • They use their fear to motivate action
    • They learn from their mistakes
    • They take calculated risks
    • They are tenacious with their goals
    • They are not too proud to learn from others
    • They spend quality time alone

So SL Fabz, which side are you on? Have you been doing the things mentally strong people do or don’t?

I encourage us all to join the train and build ourselves up mentally.

I’d like to hear from you. Look through the list. What is the most difficult thing you feel you shouldn’t be doing but can’t help yourself. Or the most difficult thing you feel you should be doing but aren’t. Let’s learn from each other.

  • Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.

For every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness.

Whatever you decide to do today, make sure it makes you happy.

    Have a fab day!

  • If You Could Make One Wish…

    What would it be?

The other day a friend of mine asked me “If you had one wish, what would you wish for?”.

I thought short, but hard about it.

The commons thoughts came up in my mind:

“World peace. A billion pounds.” And so on…

And then I said, out aloud:

“I want everyone to be happy.”

    This is why…

Because if everyone was completely and totally inner-peace-type-contented-happy, we would have peace; happy people can’t be bothered fighting each other, and money wouldn’t matter; because everyone would be treated fairly and would have more than enough of everything and anything that we needed. And so on…

So, right now, that’s my mission.

To help as many people as I possibly can to live happy lives. And to do so by being a living example as well.

If you had one wish, what would you wish for?
