  • Stephanie’s Tips: 5 Qualities To Get You Through Hard Times

Here’s a fact of life:  Tough times will come. Deal with it. “BUT HOW?!” you ask. Good question.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but life have taught me some experiences I’m willing to share. It’s possible to turn even the most upsetting situations into opportunities for growth if you have the necessary qualities to do so. Here are 5 of them:

    1. Have Confidence In Yourself: No one can do this better than you.  People can encourage, friends can give their support, family can cheer you on, but not without you believing in yourself. Having confidence that you are able to surpass hard times is a very vital quality you must possess.

    2. Creative Problem Solving Solutions: A tough time is a problem. Problems demand solutions. You’re the leader, so you’re responsible for leading the problem solving. If you understand problem solving, the whole process becomes easier — maybe even fun. Try to understand the nature of the problem and try some solutions to solve it. If it doesn’t work, don’t give up. Just try again.

    3. Patience: This is the capacity to accept and tolerate difficulty without anger or sorrow—and it’s your lifeline when you find yourself in the midst of a hard time.

    4. Have Courage: Many times when going through difficult situations, we get overwhelmed by fear. Yes, I understand. But don’e let such fear weigh you down, rather let it deepen your resolve. A strong mind is not built on something that is slapped together on a shallow foundation. It needs solid rock—like a skyscraper, the higher you want to go, the deeper you must go.

Don’t forget ~ Courage is the tendency to see life’s obstacles as challenges to be met rather than threats to be avoided.

    5. Pace Yourself: Give things time. Situations don’t change overnight. Create targets and milestones on what you want to achieve after a certain period concerning that problem and work towards it. Take it step by step.

I hope this helps SL Fabz and I sincerely wish you the very best in everything you do.

    Best wishes everyone!

    xoxo

  • 8 Amazing Kitchen Tips To Make Cooking Easier

It’ a beautiful Saturday and I’m sure like me, some of you would be spending some time in the kitchen.

To make your cooking experience easier, here are some interesting kitchen tips I’d like to share with you:

    • Always wash your meat thoroughly with lime or lemon. It kills off all the bacteria & gets rid of all that awful smell.
    • When boiling rice or pasta always add a tablespoon of butter. It gives it wonderful aroma & makes it taste even nicer.
    • Always wash rice thoroughly before cooking at all times. This way you don’t need to parboil the rice. Especially Basmati rice.
    • If you don’t like the skin of chicken and you happen to be the one taking it off, all you have to do is get a cloth or napkin, place it on top of the chicken part & pull the skin off. Easy!
    • If you aren’t sure how fresh your eggs are, place them in about 10cm of water.Eggs that stay on the bottom are fresh. If only one end tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon. If it floats, it’s past the fresh stage.
    • If you over-salt a pot of soup, just drop in a peeled potato, the potato will absorb the excess salt.
    • For burnt rice, place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavour.
    • Don’t store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits. Separate your bananas and place each in a different location. Bananas release gases which cause fruits (including other bananas) to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.

  • 5 Beauty Habits You Should Be Doing Every Night

Your skin can do serious work for you while you sleep-you just have to give it a little help along the way. Try one or all of these treatments to wake up looking refreshed and gorgeous.

    1. Remove all your makeup. Lipstick, mascara, powder…. everything. This ensures that your pores will be clean and your eyes free of leftover gunk.

    2. Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase. Their texture prevents wrinkles and fine lines because it causes less friction between your skin and the pillowcase.

    3. Once you remove your makeup, use a facial cleanser to remove any dead skin, dirt and sweat. Pick a facial cleanser that right for your skin type.

    4. Apply a good Moisturizer. It a myth that only people with dry skin need moisturizer. In fact, even people with oily skin can benefit from a regular moisturizer, though they may be able to skip a day without noticing too much change in the way their skin looks.

    5. Wear your hair up but not too tight. It’s a good idea to keep your hair out of your face while you’re sleeping to keep its natural oils from wreaking havoc on your complexion.

SL Fabz, what else do you ensure you do to your skin/face before going to bed every night?

  • Stephanie’s Tips: How To Protect Yourself During The Harmattan

The harmattan season is here and with it comes some cold, dryness and discomfort. Because there is a lot of dust particles being carried around by the wind, this gets into our eyes and may cause some allergy and redness. Also, the skin is usually dry with accompanying cracking of lips, soles of the feet and sometimes the skin itself. This could also be accompanied by excessive sneezing and catarrh.

The good news is that there are certain things we can do to protect ourselves and our skin from the worst. Here are some:

    1. Drink lots of water to keep you hydrated but avoid excessive intake of caffeinated drinks. Excessive intake of caffeinated drinks (Antihistamines) can be dehydrating to your skin, and the key thing to survive Harmattan is moisture.

    2. Keep your skin moisturized always. Use one with natural oils like coconut oil , jojoba oil… or you could whip up some natural shea butter at home add some natural oils and essential oils and you’ve got your own body cream.

    3. Rinsing your eyes with clean water and reducing the exposure to the dust by wearing protective spectacles is advised.

    4. Do away with alcohol-based facial cleansers, they strip the skin of the much-needed moisture and further dry the skin.

    5. Avoid unnecessary exposure of your skin to dry air. Keep warm by always dressing appropriately for the season.

    6. Keep your hair moisturized and try as much as possible to do hairstyles that keep your hair ends hidden to avoid breakage.

    7. Avoid using hair spritz, gels and strong hair hold. Mild styling mousse can be used for styling instead.

    8. Do not completely dry your skin after shower. Your skin can retain more moisture if you apply cream on damp skin.

    9. Vitamin C is good for the skin, nails and hair. Take fruits that contain Vitamin C to keep your skin looking supple.

    10. Don’t forget to have your lip balm always with you and apply it often to keep your lips from getting too dry and chaffed.
