  • How To Waste Time Well

Do you often find yourself lying on the couch or in bed, watching episode after episode of a captivating Series? Yes, this might be a good way to relax after a hard day/week’s work. But there’s a whole other kind of relaxation that I would recommend to you, though.

I call it Wasting Time Well.

But, what is “wasting” time exactly? Some people might define it as any time spent doing work that’s not productive, either personally or professionally. However you define it, it’s time to redefine it. Because wasting time is good for the brain and can help lower stress levels and boost creative thinking.

How do you know you’ve wasted time well? My answer: It doesn’t stop you from doing all the things you have committed yourself to getting done in a day.

Here are some tips to wasting time well and still being productive.

    1. Learn something meaningful to you: Learn things that are important in your daily life, or enhance your hobbies. For instance, if you’re a good cook, read and try a new recipe. If you like a weekend drive, check for exciting or interesting events going on in the area.

    2. Social media housekeeping: Think of it as online filing – go through your Facebook, remove old and embarrassing photos and delete any ‘friends’ you have not spoken to for ages. Update your Twitter/Instagram timeline, but don’t spend too much time there or get immersed in the distractions.

    3. Exercise your mind in a relaxing way: This is especially helpful if you are working on something physical. A mental puzzle or brain twister might be a great way to relax and still build up yourself mentally.

    4. Plan for a vacation: Planning a party, a vacation, an event will help you feel excited as you look forward to something special. It also helps in improving your work-life balance thereby making you more productive at work.

What other tips do you have to add? How do you waste time well?

  • Beating or Cheating: What is a deal breaker?

First of all, I think this question is ridiculous! None should be acceptable in a relationship.

However, I’ve been noticing this question trending on a couple of platforms and just recently, someone asked me the same question.

It’s quite sad that women are mostly on the receiving end of this. Statistics show that women are most often the victims of domestic violence in relationships, and they are also the ones who get cheated upon most times. The fact that this question is even being considered in the first place goes a long way to show that we as women need to do more in empowering ourselves financially. We must also build our confidence and self-esteem, and tell ourselves (including our daughters, sisters, mothers and friends) that we shouldn’t just wholeheartedly accept such undesirable treatment simply because we are women.

I do not really want to go into a rant about this, but this is how I feel.

How about you? What are your thougths on this topic?

  • 5 Famous People Who Were Rejected Before Achieving Success

Many times, we think that famous and successful people achieved success overnight or that they got it handed to them on a platter of gold. That’s absolutely wrong! In most cases, people who achieved success failed several times before. What makes them stand out however is the fact that they did not give up even after being rejected.

Today, I’d like us to encourage ourselves with the stories of these 5 famous people, with the hope that their remarkable stories would inspire us:

    • Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star in 1919 because, his editor said, he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.”
    • Oprah Winfrey was fired as an evening news reporter because she couldn’t keep her emotions from her stories.
    • Elvis Presley was told by the concert hall manager at the Grand Ole Opry that he was better off returning to Memphis and driving trucks.
    • Henry Ford went broke five times with his early businesses which all failed.
    • Albert Einstein didn’t speak until he was four, and couldn’t read until he was seven.

Today, their success stories are being celebrated all over the world because they dared to try again.

Do you have any other success story you want to add? How do you encourage yourself when you’re feeling rejected?

  • Choose Friends Who Influence You Positively

The people who you keep close will have a huge impact on your life.

Choose friends that will hold you accountable, be honest with you, and encourage you towards your goals and dreams. When you share your time with people that build you up and encourage you, then you can build lasting relationships. These relationships contribute directly to true happiness.

Studies show us that happy people that have better social relationships have more pleasant everyday lives. Put your
energy towards building meaningful deep relationships, even if it means having fewer of them.

Fill your inner circle with those who radiate positivity and lift you higher, bringing you feelings of happiness on an ongoing basis.

Let’s celebrate our friends today. Who is that friend who influences you in a positive way?

  • TALK TO STEPH: Can I Marry A Man From Another Tribe?

    Dear Stephanie,

I am an Igbo lady and I am in love with a Yoruba man. We met in the University about four years ago and started dating since then. I didn’t really think our relationship would last long, I just liked him then and I wanted to have a companion in school. But he has proven to be much more than I expected and he has asked me to marry him. We are both working and have good jobs but the only problem is his tribe. My parents have been telling me to leave the relationship for a long time but every time I try to leave, we always come back together. I said yes to his proposal but I don’t know how to break the news to my parents. They will never be in support of our marriage. What should I do?

    Oluchi.

    Dear Oluchi,

Love is a beautiful thing, I must tell you, and I’m glad you’ve found love. Love transcends age, religion, tribe and many other social barriers we create for ourselves. I want you to know that it’s totally normal to find love with someone from a different tribe. However, I cannot tell you whether you should marry this man or not. What I can tell you is that if he is God’s will for you, God will touch the heart of your parents sooner or later. As parents, we want the best for our children and I’m sure your parents have valid reasons for not wanting you to be in this relationship. You should listen to them. But even more, you should listen to God and let him speak to your heart. Then trust your heart and let it guide you.

I sincerely wish you the very best and I hope you make the best choice.

    SL

So, what are your thoughts on this? What do you think Oluchi should do? Please drop your advice in the comment box below.

*If you have any kind of situation you need advice on and you’ll like us to discuss it here, please send an email to info@stephaniedaily.com with the subject: Talk To Steph.

  • I Stand With Zero Tolerance for FGM

Today is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

According to the UN, Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women.

It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls. The practice also violates their rights to health, security and physical integrity, their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death.

For many of us, FGM might not be a common occurrence in our communities, but it is real and must be stopped. I recall some months ago when I went to screen DRY in Ebonyi State, I was amazed at the real life stories I heard. At an event organised by the UNFPA and the state’s First Lady, some women who used to make a living from circumcising girls and women in their communities came forward to declare that they have stopped the act and surrendered their tools. I saw blades, knives and other crude objects that made me cringe. I imagined the pain those girls and women must have felt while being cut and the devastating consequences of that unnecessary action on their lives. From fistula, to infertility, to painful childbirth and even death, there are lots of dangers associated with this practice. Sadly, many people are ignorant about this and think they are doing their females more good than harm by circumcising them. That is why you and I must help in raising awareness every way we can.

And so today, I join my voice with many others across the world to say lets have Zero Tolerance for FGM.

Globally, at least 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone some form of female genital mutilation (FGM). If current trends continue, 15 million more girls could be affected by 2030. On the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation raise your voice to #endFGM.

  • Simple Ways to Practice Gratitude

Feeling grateful about my life is something I never feel ashamed of; in my opinion, every moment should be cherished. But sometimes I tend to focus on the negative and forget ways to be grateful, even when it feels like things are just not going my way.

You might not be able to control every aspect of your life, but you can control your outlook on it. And what’s a better way to live than with gratitude and positivity?

As soon as you wake up, resist the urge to reach for your phone and check your emails or messages. Make the first thing you do that day be an act of gratitude. If we want to express love and gratitude for others, we have to have it for ourselves first.

Practising gratitude is something you can do easily. For example, you can start making “please” and “thank you” phrases that you use often when asking and getting help from others. You can also spend a few minutes at the end of the day writing down five things you feel most grateful for from that day.

Some days you will write without feeling a shred of gratitude. That’s OK. Just do it anyway. And when you can summon up the feeling of gratitude in your heart, let it pass through every cell in your body. Embody it. Place your hands on your heart. Raise your head, lift your self up.

Move into the feeling. Dance it. Sing it. Aspire to a fullness of heart, no matter what is going on around you.

  • How To Make Delicious Ugu Smoothie

Pumpkin Leaf, popularly known as Ugu or Ugwu here in Nigeria is commonly used in our vegetable soups. But recently, I’ve discovered a different way to enjoy its rich nutrients in all its goodness – SMOOTHIE!

When you think of a Smoothie, you probably think of just fruits. Why not try adding a vegetable this time around?

The Ugu leaf is loaded with iron, a mineral that is key to improve your blood production level.

    You would need the following:

    • A blender or food processor
    • Ugu leaves (Pumpkin)
    • One Orange or Pineapple
    • One banana

    How to prepare:

    • Rinse the Ugu leaves properly to remove any dirt on it. (You don’t need to slice the leaves)
    • Chop the banana into pieces
    • Squeeze the juice out of the orange or pineapple ( I prefer to use this juice instead of water)
    • Place everything into the blender and blend till its really smooth

Pour the smoothie into a glass and drop in some ice cubes if you want it chilled. An optional method will be using milk instead of banana. Try using Tiger Nut milk or Soy Milk and you’ll love it.

This is a fast smoothie you can enjoy with the rest of your family this lovely Saturday!

Do you have any other recipe for Ugu Smoothie? Have you tried this before? Please share, I’d love to read your comments.
