  • “My Encounter with the Book” at the Lagos Book & Arts Festival 2016

    Happy Sunday SL Fabz!

I hope your day has been interesting and blessed so far.

On Friday 11th November, I was honoured to spend some time with school children at the 18th Lagos Book and Arts Festival (LABAF) where I headlined the “MENTORSHIP” programme. I had a really interesting time with the children and young adults where I spoke to them on the topic “My Encounter with the Book”. This was a session where I talked about the impact of books and reading on my life as well as how it has helped shaped my career.

The real fun started when I began to interact with them during the Q&A session. Truly, these future leaders have very bright minds and are at such a crucial stage in their life where their character is being formed. I was amazed by how much they are exposed to already, but the beautiful thing about these young ones is that with proper guidance, they can grow up to be great men and women. It was really good to be in their midst.

I must say a big thank you to the organisers of this event for putting together something so enriching and for honoring me with an invitation.

Here are some pictures from the event which took place at the Freedom Park in Lagos:

  • 5 Ways to Make a Kick Ass First Impression

In the first 10 seconds of meeting someone new, they are forming subconscious opinion about you. As human beings, it is our innate reaction to judge someone upon first introduction. First impressions are so vital!

I think we can all agree that you only get one chance at a first impression.

When entering into a new relationship whether it’s social, professional or romantic, it’s imperative to remember that changing someone’s mind is much more challenging than impressing them on the forefront.

But is this something you can learn? Yes, I definitely think so.

In order to have a great meeting and be remembered in the right way while cementing your reputation, here are some important tips on making a good first impression:

    1. Appearance – dress with purpose all the time! You never know when you’re going to meet ‘that’ person.
    2. Body language – non verbal communication and how you carry yourself is critical and essential to that first impression.
    3. Verbal – speak in a manner that is deserving and commanding respect. Avoid filler words.
    4. Non verbal – be an active listener by being engaged
    5. Give compliments – people like you more if you give compliments

Do you have any tips to add? Let’s know how you leave a good impression on someone you’re just meeting for the first time.

    xoxo

  • HICC… Adam & Eve

    Hi SL Fabz,

Another new month is here! Whoop!!!

    Happy New Month.

Two Sundays ago, I was at the Harvesters International Christian Centre here in Lagos with my hubby for a program tagged Adam & Eve Special. This was a couple’s event where we shared our experiences about our marriage, our love and how we keep it together.

We had an interesting time in the presence of God and His children and I pray that there will be a renewal of love in our marriages and our homes this new month.

  • My Latest Movie, ‘Boonville Redemption’ To Be Released In November

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m glad my most recent movie feature is about to be released!

It’s an American Western production titled Boonville Redemption, where I starred alongside other talented actors like Pat Boone, Edward Asner, Diane Ladd, Richard Tyson, Shari Rigby, Kassandra Voyagis, Robert Hays, Emily Hoffman and more.

In the movie, I play the role of Doris, a lady from the second generation of slave trade in America whose parents came from Nigeria. Doris is no longer a slave and she lives with her Uncle in this community where people are not judged by their race or colour. She forms a bond with a young girl, Melinda, who grew up not knowing her father.

    boonville-redemption

    Here’s the synopsis:

13-year-old Melinda is angry about the hand life has dealt her. Being born out of wedlock and scorned by many, she struggles to find out who she is in this world, to herself, her family and to God.

Melinda desperately wants to know what happened to her real father. Determined to do all within her power to find her father, Melinda’s bravery compels some of the townspeople to reveal the dark secrets that they have kept to themselves for years.

Her example gives them strength to bring the truth to light and ultimately to find forgiveness and redemption. Along with Boonville’s residents, Melinda learns that when you look for the truth, that’s where you’ll find grace.

The movie will be released in November and I’m so happy about this. Watch the trailer below:

  • Chase Your Dreams

When you wake up in the morning, you have two choices – you can go back to sleep and dream your dreams or you can wake up and chase those dreams.

I know it’s very easy to give up when we are faced with challenges, but there is so much we stand to achieve if we keep pushing on.

To the ones who still believe in dreams:

Chase them. Chase them until you’re out of breath. Then, keep running.

The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams and I want to encourage you today not to give up. The only time you should ever look back is to see how far you’ve come.

    Have a fulfilled day!

  • Maxwell’s First Phone Call With His Uncle

This video leaves me with a very big smile every time I watch it, and believe me, I’ve watched it countless times!

Maxwell is growing up so fast, already making some baby babbles and sometimes he can go on and on, we actually know he is communicating with us. It’s such a joy to listen to him.

While spending some time with his favourite uncle Emmanuel Linus recently, they had this ‘conversation’. Or, what else do you want me to call it? Lol!

It’s so interesting to know that even at such a young age, kids are already watching watching what we do and trying to be just like us. This video was recorded before his first birthday. He turned the TV remote control into a mobile phone and this happened:

  • Lovely Moments That Made Maxwell’s Birthday So Much Fun!

It’s been two days since my son, Maxwell celebrated his first birthday but I am still in a joyous mood. There is so much to be thankful for and I am very grateful to God for his infinite mercies upon me, my husband, Maxwell and all our loved ones.

On Sunday 23rd October, Maxwell Enosata Linus clocked one! Yay!!!!

I am still so overwhelmed at the turnout of people and the support we received that day. Believe me it was fun all the way!

All the kids who came were so excited, good mannered and very very intelligent! As I watched them play around, answer questions, eat and participate in all the activities, I couldn’t help but appreciate the sacrifice their parents make everyday to ensure they bring them up so well.

The parents, aunties and uncles were not left out of the fun too. We rocked that dance floor!

Truly, the past year has been the most exciting for my husband and I with Maxwell in our lives and as we look forward to celebrating many more birthdays and joyous occasions like this, I pray the same for you – that joy and laughter shall not cease in your homes.

Thank you so much for all the lovely messages and birthday wishes. On behalf of my family, we love you and appreciate you!

I hope you enjoy seeing these photos from our day:

  • #WorldFoodDay2016: Taking Action Against Hunger

What is the thing that came to your mind when you first heard about World Food Day? Reading about the day that many of us barely even know exists, the first thing that pops up, naturally, in anyone’s mind may probably be how to eat as much as possible.

But, no. This day, October 16 – the World Food Day – is not about that.

As the website of World Food Day, United States (US) appropriately phrases it, it ‘is a day of action against hunger’. A day when a step should be taken towards eradication of hunger, if not globally, locally.

‘Climate is changing. Food & agriculture must too’ is this year’s World Food Day theme.

It’s a day for us to pledge & contribute to overcome climate change and adapt agriculture to build zero hunger generation.

If we cut food waste by a quarter, there would be enough for everyone to eat. Let’s give a thought to this on #WorldFoodDay2016. Because when it comes to hunger, the only acceptable number is zero. Let us take a pledge on this day to not waste food, henceforth. Spread the word.

“There are genuinely sufficient resources in the world to ensure that no one, nowhere, at no time, should go hungry” -Ed Asner.

  • 21 More Reasons To Smile

I woke up to the happy news that 21 Chibok school girls who were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 have been released. According to news reports, they were freed after negotiations with their captors.

These girls are among the over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Islamist insurgents in April 2014. After 2years and 6months in captivity, they have finally been released to join their families! What an awesome news.

Well done #BringBackOurGirls group for the continued advocacy, and all who have been praying for their safe return all over the world. I must also commend the brave Nigerian soldiers who have been putting their lives on the line for our safety. God bless you all.

I can’t imagine how their families and loved ones must have felt during this trying period. It’s such a relief to hear this news. Let’s not forget the rest of the girls and others who have been held captive. I sincerely pray that God will comfort and strengthen the rest of the awaiting parents and bring all the girls back home.
