  • Are you at risk of breast cancer?

They say 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Isn’t that scary statistics?

Breast cancer is a combination of factors; but don’t be scared, breast cancer isn’t all about risk factors. However, if you have breast cancer risk factors, talk to your doctor .

    Watch out for these signs:

Family history of breast cancer: Your risk of breast cancer is higher if you have a mother or sister who suffered same illness.

Taking Alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer

Being overweight or obese after menopause can be a risk factor

Early menstrual period: starting early exposes the estrogen hormones and raises the risk of breast cancer

Getting older poses a risk of breast cancer, as more women over 50 are diagnosed.

Late pregnancy can be a risk factor. Having your first pregnancy at 30; or not getting pregnant at all.

    Other signs are:

Women who are not physically active have a high risk, and also the use of certain contraceptive and birth control can raise the chances of breast cancer.

Exhale, don’t fret. Go for screening and consult your health centres.

  • 10 Things you should be able to do!

Apart from the basic need to survive, here are 10 things I think Nigerians should learn how to do. These are not only survival skills, but in this information era, you need skills that are useful in gaining social favour and building better relationships.

    1. Know how to Swim.

    1. Know how to change a Tyre.

    1. You should know how to Code. Keep up with the new age, learn how to program. It’s the only way to navigate

      through this new world.

    1. Know how to THINK critically, and question the current way of doing things.

    1. You must know how to perform CPR. Cardiac arrest is a common medical issue. You should learn how to save a life. It could be that of a life you love. This also applies to learning how to perform basic first aid. For instance, learn how to dress a wound. You may not need a doctor.

    1. Take Taekwondo class. Self defense is all you may be left with in some situations. You must learn how to defend yourself from single or multiple assailants. Security, as we know, is not so sure. Guard your space.

    1. Know how to speak one or two foreign languages besides English or your local dialect.

    1. You should know how to make legit money without having a job.

    1. You should know how to be Happy. Despite whatever circumstances you must be going through, you must learn Happiness, and it should become a part of you whether life is good or tough.

    1. You should know how to manage your time. 24 hours is enough. Know when to get out of bed. Know when to start your day. Learn how to prioritise your work. Know how to shut down noise that affects productivity. It’s all on you to know how to live the best 24 hours of your life everyday

  • Did you know: ATM machines are as dirty as public toilets?!

    Eww!

If you missed this report, then here it is:

Pressing the ATM keys to withdraw money is just as dirty as placing your hand on a public toilet seat. Cleanliness tests have acknowledge that ATM machines have as much bacteria as public toilets. Swabs taken from a cash machine keyboards and from public toilets found both samples had the same bacteria known to lead to sicknesses, like diarrhea.

Since we have cultivated the habit of using hand sanitisers; this is only a kind reminder to use it also AFTER using an ATM machine.

    Be safe. Stay healthy!

  • It’s World Malaria Day!

For Nigerians in the metropolis, malaria might seem like the ordinary condition that comes every once in a while to rattle our good health. But in many settlements across Africa, people die of malaria, mainly children.

In areas with high malaria concentration, pregnant women and children are most at risk of contracting the disease. Children under the age of 5 are more likely to die of the disease.

On World Malaria Day, the world raises awareness of the disease and its prevention.

For this year’s theme, the World Health Organisation says, “ending malaria for good”, by demonstrating prevention methods including mosquito nets and insecticides.

Here are 3 things you need to know:

If you are taking anti-malaria tablets, always finish the course. It will be ineffective if the instructions are not followed thoroughly.

Some malaria drugs are not effective because the parasites are resistant to them. If malaria is treated with the wrong drug, the disease will continue.

For many people, symptoms of malaria begin 10 days to 4 weeks after being bitten by an infected mosquito.

    Stay safe, all!

  • #WinningWednesday: The Mathematical Certainty of having a Successful Day!

“Certainty is perfect knowledge that has total security from error, or the mental state of being without doubt. Objectively defined, certainty is total continuity and validity of all foundational inquiry, to the highest degree of precision.”

Ok! Don’t let the title scare you. Not too many people like Maths (LOL!). I know. But this is just a simple way to explain how you can WIN graciously if you follow all of life’s cues for the day.

So here is a formula I came up with:

You wake up very early + a shower + light breakfast = sharp mind, positive vibe, enthusiasm to kick into your day.

You get to work before crazy traffic build-up + you get cracking on your job before the office is full of people and noise + the fresh morning breeze propelling you to cease the day = An amazing morning with many on-the-desk work accomplished.

You have a healthy lunch + less gossip with colleagues + eye on a particular goal for the day = A pile of workload off your desk, and you believing more in your abilities.

    Check out some other formulas:

You pray + live according to the principles you project + show kindness to others = A good life, worthy of commendation, drawing strength from the universe, aligning to cosmic and godly ideals.

If you do not stand up from your bed to plan a new day, there’s a certainty you will not make any success of the day.

If you do not work on a project, there’s a certainty you will not build any significant feat on that project.

If you do not spend time developing yourself, your mind, and your convictions, there’s a certainty, as sure as the rising of the sun, that you will not grow as you should into the opportunities and success that awaits those who trudge on.

Life is full of many miracles. And there’s a place for God’s wonders. But life is also about mathematical certainties, which states that without doubt, you will reap what you sow, and for all actions there are consequences.

So, win your way with the right mindset this Wednesday with all confidence, knowing that only you can win or wreck your chances in life.

  • Serena Williams Wins Wimbledon Title For The 6th Time ~ What An Inspiration!

Luck has nothing to do with it, because I have spent many, many hours, countless hours, on the court working for my one moment in time, not knowing when it would come.” – Serena Williams

I love strong women; I love determined women; I love go-getters; I love people who do not limit their thoughts; I love people who dream big, work hard and stay focused; I love Serena Williams…. her story inspires me so much.

Yesterday, she won Wimbledon (a tennis championship) for the sixth time!

The win means Williams holds all four Grand Slam titles at once — completing the second “Serena Slam” of her career. What’s more, she secured the third leg of a calendar-year Grand Slam and, if she wins the U.S. Open, will become the first player to sweep all four majors in the same season since Steffi Graf in 1988.

At 33, Williams is also the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era. She has now won eight major championships in her 30s, including her first Wimbledon title since 2012.

She has worked very hard to achieve this feat, and her success is definitely worth celebrating. Well done!

  • Happy Democracy Day!

It’s a new dawn. The only constant thing in life is change.

Let us hope for the best. Let us pray that this change is what will truly change Nigeria.

To the outgoing president, GEJ, we say thank you for allowing peace to reign.

You could have stood in the way of peace and pursue your own personal glory like some African leaders are known to do…

But instead you conceded defeat, and because of your kind and humane gesture we are here today, celebrating a new dawn, new hopes.

To the new president, GMB, may your time bring remarkable results for Nigerians.

Let this be to our collective glory.

    A truly new Nigeria!

    Cheers, everyone!

  • Fuel scarcity: How are you coping?

It is sad, isn’t it? To know that an oil-producing country like Nigeria continues to suffer these bouts of fuel crisis that paralysis the entire nation every other year!

My people, how have you been coping?

This is probably the worst hit as it affected almost all the industries from banks, to radio stations, to telecoms.

    full fuel

We are buying 5litres of fuel for as high as N5,000!

    What a way to live!

Does it make sense for a few to hold over 150million others at ransom?

    Where are the solutions?

How can we ensure this fuel habits find a permanent solution?

I remember the young girls with their urine test on generators some time back; do we have other ways we can build alternative for fuel? What possibilities does urine have for producing energy? Have we looked into that?

What can be done? In 2015, it is absurd to continue to face these type of challenges when the whole world is moving on to great technological advancements everyday.

Where lies the solution, my people?

  • What kind of compliment will make you smile all day?

Every once in a while we meet someone who just brightens our day with something nice to say.

    “I love your shoes”
    “You’ve got lovely eyes”
    “You have impressive business skills”

These are just a few nice words to say that can change the course of someone’s day.

I think compliment is a good icebreaker and can leave a lasting impression.

Note that this is different from plain flattery. Flattery is usually just sweet talk, compliments are based on facts.

So what kind of compliment will make you smile all day!
