  • Housekeeper arrives at work to clean a house that ends up becoming hers!!!

If you need something to encourage you to keep working harder and even more diligently, then you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve just had an interesting time watching this video of how a hardworking housekeeper and single mother of three was rewarded with a new house! She thought she was resuming work at a new house and as soon as she got in, she started getting surprise after surprise. The icing on the cake was when the host of the show came in with some of her personal stuff, saying it was for the ‘owner’ of the house. The obviously confused Cara said she wasn’t the owner of the house, until her children showed up and he announced that the house was actually hers! She even got another surprise too.

Cara devoted all her time to her job and her family and #PrankitFWD gave her a big a break…. Amazing!!

This made me smile and cry at the same time. It will make your day.

  • A Lady And Her Manicure

There is this perception by most people that women who keep well manicured nails (mostly artificial), don’t do any kind of domestic work.

A friend of mine brought this topic up again recently. According to her, her younger sister went to visit her future mother-in-law and when the elderly woman saw the young lady’s nails, she promptly told her in a not-too-kind manner that she wants her son to have a wife who won’t give her nails as an excuse for not cooking. The elderly woman said to her “Won’t you spend all my son’s money on fast food with nails like that?

The irony of this situation is that the elderly woman couldn’t be more far from the truth. The lady in question is a very good cook, infact, someone you would call a ‘foodie’. She is so good and passionate about cooking that she runs a food blog where she dishes lovely recipes to her readers regularly. She spends more time in the kitchen than the average woman. But her nails made her mother-in-law to be judge her differently.

So, I ask, do you look at a woman’s nails and immediately come to a conclusion on the kind of person she is? Should this be so?

    Let’s discuss!

  • Read This Before You Sleep Tonight

So what do you do at night before you sleep? Do you watch television? Do you surf the web and this is how you found this blog? Or do you spend quality time with your family?

What about successful people? What do they do at night before they sleep? I found an article on 10 things most successful people do at night before sleeping on LifeHack and thought it would be great to share it with you. These are the 6 points that stood out to me.  Try doing at least one of these things tonight:

    1. Read books
Many successful people in the world are voracious readers. They read and they learn from what others talk about. Do you know that reading and learning can shortcut your journey to success? In fact, many great people including Bill Gates, read books or articles until they feel tired and then go to bed after.

    2. Spend quality time with family and friends
Yep, success starts from within. You have to spend quality time with your family and friends in order to get connected and stay connected.

    3. Plan and get ready for the next day
This is one of the most important things you can do before you sleep. Planning for tomorrow, writing down what you need to do and get ready for the next day to come. For instance, most people will iron their clothes and get all the relevant documents that they need to use for the next day ready before they sleep. You should do the same.

    4. Meditation
Another great thing you may want to practice at night. Meditation is good for both your mental health and physical health. Meditation works as a recharge for your energy and get you focus in what you want. You feel deeply relaxed after the hustle and bustle of the day. Now it is time for you to stay relax for both your mind and your body.

    5. Envision tomorrow
One of the best ways to get ready for what’s coming is to envision it. Just like how visualization works, when you think about your perfect days, you will be more prepared and have the confidence to go through everything that comes along.

    6. Write down accomplishments for the day
What have you accomplished during the day? Some people will say none because they don’t think they are productive on the day.

When you feel grateful that you have proper lunch, proper dinner and able to get home safely and able to spend great moments with your family, you will feel deep joy within. On the other hand, if you don’t feel thankful for all that you have, you will feel stressed, pressured and insufficient. You will have the feeling of “not enough” even if you already have everything.

I’d like to add mine to the list. Don’t forget to PRAY!

So, have you done any of these already or do you plan to do one of them before going to bed tonight?

Have a great night SL Fabz and do visit stephaniedaily.com again tomorrow.

  • Should A Man Cook & Clean When He Has A Wife?

Growing up in a typical African home, I learnt that some chores are meant for the girls and women while others are meant for the men.

But as I grew older, I began to notice a reversal of roles. Some call it western influence, some call it development, while others would call it pure madness.

We find in some homes these days that the woman is the bread winner. In others, men help their wives out in the kitchen to wash and clean. Lots of women are great drivers; while lots of men are excellent cooks and hairdressers… I could go on and on about different things men and women weren’t doing before, but do now.

However, today, I’d like us to focus on the kitchen and domestic work. Is it ‘proper’ for a man to do the dishes and cook at home regularly? Remember, the emphasis is on regularly, I don’t mean just helping his wife out once in a while. If a man loves to cook and clean, should he stop doing it simply because he is married and now has a wife?

    Let’s discuss!

  • Foodie Time: How To Prepare Yam Bolognese

Sounds interesting right? I found this specialty on 9jafoodie and I just had to try it out. It will do great for lunch or dinner.

Typically, Bolognese sauce is a meat-based Italian sauce served with pasta, but here we are doing it the yam way.

    Here is the recipe:
    Bolognese Sauce
    3 cups minced meat
½ teaspoon each (Ground- Ginger, garlic and pepper)
    Salt – to taste
    1 cubed spice
2 sprigs Green onions – chopped
    1 cup water
    1 tsp. flour

    Pan Roasted Yam
½ medium yam tuber (900g) – peeled, cubed and wash
    Salt – to taste
3 Tbsps. Coconut or vegetable oil
    ½ tsp ground pepper
1 small onion – thinly sliced
    1 cubed spice

    Directions

    1. In a pot, cover washed yam with water and set on medium-high heat. Boil for 15-18 minutes or until just fork-tender. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
    2. While yam is boiling, place another pot on high heat; add in minced meat, spices, salt, cubed spice, and chopped onion. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes or until meat is browned and cooked. Add in 1 cup of water and flour. Stir to combine. Remove from heat and set aside.
    4. Combine cooked yam with salt, pepper, and your desired spice
    5. Add oil to a skillet and heat until hot. Add yam. Allow the yam to brown underneath. Flip yam and brown on other side for 2-3 sides. Add in onions and stir-fry gently for another 2-3 minutes.
    6. Add sauce into cooked yam. Cover and simmer for 5 more minutes. Serve and enjoy.

So, would you love to try this?

  • 5 Ways To Feel Better Today

We all love to be happier, don’t we? But sometimes, things don’t always turn out the way we want them to.

Just in case your day is not turning out as good as you want it to, take a break and try one or more of these tips to make you feel better:

    1. List your accomplishments. Go on, write them down. Everything from winning the spelling bee to completing a project on time. Write down anything you can think of that you feel proud about. Look at you!

    2. Spend time with friends and family. Social time is highly valuable when it comes to improving our happiness, even for introverts. Several studies have found that time spent with friends and family makes a big difference to how happy we feel, generally.

    3. Fix your hair and make-up. When you look your best, you see yourself differently and that would surely make you feel better and more confident.

    4. Practice smiling – it can alleviate pain. Smiling itself can make us feel better, but it’s more effective when we back it up with positive thoughts.  A smile is also a good way to alleviate some of the pain we feel in troubling circumstances.

    5. Lift someone’s spirits. You can turn around bad feelings about yourself right away when you channel your energy into making someone feel good about themselves. It’s crazy how that works but it’s totally true.

I hope these few suggestions would help you feel better if you are perhaps feeling down.

SL Fabz, what do you to to boost your spirits, and make yourself feel better when you’re having a bad day?

  • “What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow”

Recently, eight men, including four Nigerians, were executed in Indonesia on allegations of drug related crimes. Australian Andrew Chan was one of them.

The news shook the entire world with many condemning the sentence of a death penalty carried out on these men. I do not in anyway support the death penalty and I think it should be totally abolished in every country.

Sadly, Andrew Chan is now dead, but before he died he wrote this letter to children in school, advising them not to follow his footsteps. I found it very inspiring and just had to share it here. The letter was read out by Chan himself, from inside his Indonesian prison cell, as part of a documentary made available to schools. After introducing himself, the Australian said:

Now the reason why I’m writing you this letter is to address you guys about the dangers of drugs and the effects it can have on you and also others. To tell you a little bit about my life story, I was once 15, 16 and it wasn’t too long ago I was sitting in a class just like you guys.
I was an average kid and let me tell you that my teachers didn’t like me one bit and I was no teacher’s pet. But to cut a long story short, I got mixed up with drugs at a pretty young age and by the time I was 15 I was merged into the scene.
I’ve done things which I am not proud of in my life and I’ve made some pretty silly decisions. My life is a perfect example of an absolute waste.
Now to elaborate the effects of where I am, I’ve missed weddings, I’ve missed funerals and the simple presence of my own family.
The hurt and pain – I don’t just put it onto myself, but the pain I put on my family is agonizing. A simple touch such as a hug is not possible for a condemned man like me. I have nothing but an iron bar to hug rather than to be embraced by those I love and who I miss.
What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow. If you want to be a thug and a big bad wolf, I’ll see you soon inside. But for those that want to do something in life I’d like you guys to see how important it is to put your head down and study hard.
I hope these words will penetrate in your minds and in your hearts and I hope that most of you, if not all of you, will achieve more than I ever did.

His message is very true. “What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow“. The choices you make today will determine how your tomorrow will be. Just like the proverb that says: “As you lay your bed, so you will lie on it”.

Again, this is not to celebrate his death, but to learn from one of the last messages he made to the world. I pray his soul rests in peace.

It is up to us to choose whether to make good or bad choices and I hope we all choose good ones for a better tomorrow.

    xoxo

  • Frank Talk: The First Year Of Marriage

After the congratulatory messages to newlyweds the next question usually is: “How is married life?

If the couple were to give an honest answer, many would agree that it is usually the hardest. The wedding is over, and the marriage begins. The transition from the “me” to “we” is not always easy for either the man or woman in a marriage.

One major hurdle many couples face – especially in the first year is miscommunication. Marriage entails sharing, and a huge part of this would be in form of communicating to your partner. I do not claim that I have it all together , but here are a tips I have personally found very helpful:

      1. Do not make assumptions. Always ask or seek to understand what the other person really meant.
      2. Always remember that your spouse is not trying to hurt you. He/she has the best intention for you.
      3. You cannot read your spouse’s mind.
      4. Never use past experiences, family background or anyone else to judge your spouse.
      5. Never take your spouse for granted. If he/she does something worth appreciating, do not assume they know how grateful you are; say “thank you.” And in a situation where you have to admit you are wrong, do not hesitate to do so. It does not mean you are weak! It simply shows you are mature, and able to take responsibility for your actions.

To every married woman or man reading this, I pray you find peace to weather every storm in your home.

    Stay Happy!

  • What Do You Wear Everyday?

I am not referring to the latest designer clothes or wristwatches; rather I am talking about the person you choose to be each day – which is as a result of image you have of yourself. Your dressing up starts from inside. You cannot wear who you have not become on the inside.

So every day, make up your mind to be the best version of you. Dress up the man/woman on the inside with the best designers you can get.  Clear up the cobwebs, and open the windows in your mind. Your greatest strength is not your physical prowess, it is hidden in how much your mind is willing to carry.

So put on those shades that would always stay positive and optimistic. Never carry the bag of depression nor rock retarded shoes.

    You are a man/woman on a mission!
