  • 4 Ways To Refocus On Your Goals After Falling Behind

It happens to the best of us: Obstacles appear out of seemingly nowhere, leaving us wondering how to overcome them and continue on the path to achieving our goals.

Sometimes, a difficult challenge, a life change, a family event – could derail us from a goal we have set for ourselves. Sometimes, we willingly put a hold on our dreams to attend to other things, especially when trying to balance career and family and everything piles on your shoulders.

It’s important not to beat yourself up over what did not get done or accomplished. It’s also imperative to recognize that many of the obstacles that may have prevented you from reaching your goals were out of your hands.

Do you feel like you’ve fallen behind on your goals? Don’t panic! You can still get back on track and live your best life.

Here are four important steps to take if you’ve fallen behind on your goals:

    1. Define Why. If there’s something you want to do, make sure you clearly understand why. How will achieving this goal make you feel? Will you be more confident? Will it fulfill you and fuel you to work harder? Will it simply make you happier? Dig deep to find the real reason that’s driving you and focus on that.
    2. Take Action. Go to work right away on the most important task, and work until it is completed if possible. Switching between tasks does not speed things up, it has the reverse effect. It takes much longer to task switch than it does to focus on one task at a time.
    3. Set Accountable Goals. Make a to-do list or a goal list and be sure to set realistic goals. Identify the end goal you want to accomplish. Make a to-do or task list of steps to take to accomplish that goal. Set timeframes for each one of those tasks and a deadline of when you would like the goal accomplished.
    4. Celebrate Little Wins. Taking time to celebrate each success you have — whether it be big or small — is an important part of holding yourself accountable because it helps you build momentum and stay focused. Each win builds your confidence — it reinforces your “I can do this” mentality.

Remember, the most beautiful things in life take time. You’re not going to reach your dreams overnight. You have to stay patient. You have to keep putting in the effort, even when it feels like you aren’t making any progress. Remember, just because you feel like you are stuck in the same place doesn’t mean that’s the truth. Even baby steps matter.

  • How To Maximize Opportunities Around You

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.” – Winston Churchill.

There are opportunities every morning. It’s one thing to meet an opportunity and it’s another thing to have a mindset prepared to maximize the opportunity.

Opportunities are presented to us to give us a chance to elevate from a previous state to a better one. Taking hold of opportunities is one of life’s great pleasures. We see something we’ve been waiting and preparing for – and here it is! Create your life by chasing your dream. It is possible to create your life by design and live exactly as you desire. Believe… take action… and trust the process.

Are you one of those who find it stressful stretching out to utilize opportunities because you are too reluctant and afraid or do you have an active mindset that is ready to move up as every opportunity comes?

  • You Are Unstoppable!

What do Unbelieveable, Unbreakable and Unstoppable have in common?

    They all begin with U!

You are unstoppable, not because you do not have failures or doubts, but because you continue despite them.

Start where you are. Use what you have.

If you get tired, learn to rest, not quit.

You can handle whatever life throws at you.

You are stronger than you think, and the future holds great things for you.

Believe in yourself and you will be unstoppable!

“This should be the spirit every Monday. Know that something good will always happen.”

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”

  • AMVCAs and the Untold Story of Hard Work

“The elevator to success is not running; you must climb the stairs.” – Zig Ziglar

The AMVCAs took place last weekend and it was all glitz and glamour.  It was a celebration of creativity, storytelling and more importantly, a celebration of Work. Yes, work! That unattractive four letter word that many in our generation do not want to hear. For many of us, if it does not happen in five minutes, then we no longer want it. Everything has to happen fast and now!

What we see when we come to such Award Shows are women all dolled up and men looking all dapper. But behind all that fancy display are days, months and even years of sheer hard work. I am a filmmaker, I know how much work goes into creating something of value. I know how much mental, emotional, physical, and financial resources need to be invested into any creative work. There were days I was tempted to throw in the towel, there were nights I asked myself what I was doing. But I have learned that if you want to get things done, you have to work hard.

Have you ever tried something and put it off because it seemed too hard?

What are you currently avoiding because it seems totally impossible?

This is a fact: For as long as you do nothing, it would remain impossible. Quitting is easy, anybody can quit. That small middle where success and failure collide is where our true character is put to the test. Nothing extraordinary happens when things come too easily.

Hard work helps you build capacity; it helps you learn to manage your time and resources, it helps you learn discipline. Without hard work, you would not acquire the necessary training needed to manage success when it comes.

You think opportunities are scarce? I’ve got news for you; Work harder! It was Thomas Edison that once said: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Hard Work opens new doors, provides greater insights and results in deeper understanding.

Finally, I would say, be patient. You are not in a competition with anybody but yourself. When you put yourself in a place where you compete with others, you limit your potential for growth – because someone else has become the standard. There is no shortcut to success, I know it sounds cliche, but you have to climb the dusty and sometimes creaky stairs.

There is really no shortcut to success, I know it sounds cliche, but you have to climb the dusty and sometimes creaky stairs to success.

I wish you a fruitful and super productive week. Let’s do this!

I was unable to attend the Awards last weekend but I followed it and it was a lovely one. Big congratulations to all the winners!!!

  • Monday Musings: How I cope with stress

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of work, meetings, presentations, targets and more. While I’m very thankful to God for the opportunities that have come my way, it can sometimes get so overwhelming.

Everyone experiences stress at times. Research has shown that short term stress can be beneficial by helping us develop skills to cope with threatening situations. However, when stress is severe enough to overwhelm a person’s ability to take care of themselves and family, the benefits diminish. Don’t forget that the bills won’t stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day, and your work and family responsibilities will always be demanding.

Here are some of the lessons I’ve learnt in managing stress lately. Feel free to add yours in the comments section below.

    1. Express your gratitude
I can’t go a day without saying how thankful I am to God. Just the simple act of counting your blessings is very relaxing and makes you smile even when you think things are bleak. You could also write down your feelings of gratitude daily in a journal, or send little notes to friends or family letting them know how much you appreciate them.

    2. Avoid Drugs, Caffeine & Alcohol
Drugs and alcohol may seem to help with the stress. In the long run, they create additional problems and increase the stress you are already feeling. Avoid, or at least reduce, your consumption of nicotine and any drinks containing caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine and nicotine are stimulants and so will increase your level of stress rather than reduce it.

    3. Talk to Someone
Just talking to someone about how you feel can be helpful. Talking can work by either distracting you from your stressful thoughts or releasing some of the built-up tension by discussing it. For me, talking to my husband always does the trick. There is nothing more calming to your nervous system than communicating with another human being who makes you feel safe and understood.

    4. Find distractions
During long periods of working, distractions are crucial. I always find relief from stress when I’m with my ever smiling son.

    5. Take a break
Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out. Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be music, playing a game, or watching a movie.

I’d love to hear from you. What do you do to relieve stress when you feel stressed out?

    Have a lovely Monday!
