  • How to enjoy a new week

Get into the new week with some funk in your strides!

Working Monday is halfway gone. What have you been able to achieve in the hours past? Maximising your week is the best way to enjoy the approaching weekend.

So here’s a few ways to make the best of a new week:

Draw up a schedule of what to do. Marry your thoughts with action. If you are going to be productive then you need a map towards that path. This makes it easy to approach your day and get things done properly and on time and the result? You feel great!

    thumbs up

Eat less. Food just always gets in the way of productivity. So drink a lot of water, but eat less. Do you feel that funny drowsing feeling anytime you have lunch at work? Not good, right? So reduce the size of meal you devour. Take fruits instead and drink lots of water, yes. No soda! Very important.

Get in touch with your warm side. Make a call that is totally unrelated to work and get into a cool conversation. Call a friend, call your mum or you significant other. Laugh, share a joke, hold a smile all day. It balances all the work.

So let’s make this week a productive one, yes? Yay!

  • FRIENDSHIP: For A Season Or Forever?

We go through life in different phases; it seems just like yesterday when I was a little girl in primary school with colourful ribbons in my hair. Fast forward to now, I am a grown woman, probably in the busiest period of my life. Every now and then, I find myself thinking of “old” friends and what they are up to. When I had “best friends” in primary and secondary school, and even up till University, I had thought such friendships would last forever.

Life happened, and though it seems you won’t be able to survive without having those awesome people around you, you move on to the next phase, and develop new relationships.

    So what do you think?

Are some friendships meant to just last for a season or period in life; or are they meant to be kept and nurtured forever, no matter the time or place? Do you have friends who have been in your life forever? Why do you think we have best friends for a season and then grow apart after a while?

    Please share your thoughts.

  • Monday Matters: Now That The Elections Are Over…

    Hi SL Fabz!

I hope you had a cool weekend.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been in ‘Election Mode‘ in Nigeria. Now that its over, many things have returned to normal. I won’t forget in a hurry the anticipation of the Presidential Election results as Nigerians all over the world were glued to their TV Sets, Radios or Computers following the announcement of the results. Many of us turned into mathematicians overnight as we calculated the results being announced.

But beyond the results, the Elections taught us many things. First, the legendary phone call, made by President Jonathan to General Buhari, before the final results were announced nipped, to a good level, whatever violence that might have erupted in the bud.

Putting all these into context, factoring the history of election violence in the country and how easy it is to incite violence across ethnic and religious line in Nigerian one could see why indeed that sole act of President Jonathan is more than commendable. And when the Governorship elections came, some incumbent Governors followed suit as they congratulated the winners, accepting their loss in good faith.

The manuscript of the call goes thus:

    President Jonathan: Your Excellency

    General Buhari: Hello Your Excellency

    President Jonathan: How are you?

General Buhari: I am alright Your Excellency

    President Jonathan: (laughs) Congratulations

General Buhari: Thank you very much Your Excellency

President Jonathan: Yeah, so how are things?

General Buhari: Well I would congratulate you more…

President Jonathan: one of these days you should come so we sort out how to plan the transitional period

General Buhari: Thanks Your Excellency, Thank you very much

    President Jonathan: Okay… Congratulations

General Buhari: my respect Your Excellency…

The Elections also taught us the power of the vote. Many people believed their votes wouldn’t count, or that the ‘political godfathers’ would put their own candidates in power regardless. But we saw from the figures and the reaction of candidates who didn’t win that they accepted the results, and to a large extent, the results were fair.

Probably, don’t quote me, no candidate would be contesting the election results and that sounds like a good thing. In some cases, my preferred candidates didn’t win, but I accepted the results, and I’m glad many Nigerians did. It shows that we can still be united as people with different tribes and different choices.

In all, I’d say Nigerians are the true winners!

So I ask, now that the Elections are over, what have we learnt as a nation? What have we gained, what mistakes have we made, and how can we learn from them?

    Let’s discuss!

  • ‪#‎NigeriaDecides‬…. In Peace

There are very few things that keeps the entire country glued to their TV Sets, Twitter, Blogs or any media source like Football and Elections.

This time around, its the latter.

As we anxiously await the announcement of the final results of the Presidential, Senatorial and National Assembly results, I’d like to encourage us that we should do so in peace.

The results are trickling in… but let’s not get agitated if our candidates don’t win. Already, people are panicking across the country, worried that there might be some form of violence after the results are announced. I’d like to encourage us that things can be done in an orderly manner, in peace, and without violence.

Saturday’s elections did not go without some hitches. It’s really sad that some lives were lost in the process. Some gave in to violence while others used the situation to commit crimes. My prayer is that God comforts the families of those who lost their lives and that everything goes on well from now on.

I believe in Nigeria, and a better tomorrow.

  • Monday Matters: The Flying Eagles Won!

It’s always wonderful to start a new week with great news. The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have given Nigerians another reason to celebrate after the U-20 football team beat Senegal’s Young Lions 1-0 in the final match of the 2015 edition of African Youth Championship which took place in Dakar, Senegal yesterday.

Not only did they have good victory, they created a new record by becoming the first team to win the championship seven times.

This is so impressive. Stay winning boys!

SL Fabz, what are your goals for this week? What do you aspire to win?

  • Remind Yourself Of These Everyday

Life is a blessing worth appreciating every day. In a world full of chaos, anxiety and stress, it is rather easy to be negative and burdened with our life. However, on this 14th day of March, I’d like us to stay positive and reflect on 14 things worth reminding ourselves about everyday.

There’s always a way out, you just have to find it
What other people think is irrelevant
    Your life is your design
The important people in your life deserve both respect and attention
Count your blessings, not your troubles
Whatever makes you cry today can make you laugh tomorrow
Positivity is a choice you can make
If you carry the bricks of your past with you, you will build the same house
Success is a lifestyle, not a result
Not getting what you want, sometimes, is the best thing that could happen
True love is rare, don’t take it for granted
Good things in life end too soon when they aren’t appreciated
Nothing wastes more energy than worrying
When things least seem like they are going to change, that is usually when they do

It’s a great day. Make the best of it!
