  • Yay!!! Senate Passes the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill

I am so so glad today. I just read the cheering news that the Senate has passed the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill, which seeks to prohibit female circumcision, forceful ejection from home and harmful widowhood practices.

I’ve been a part of of advocacy and projects that educate women and girls against cultural practices such as female circumcision and I’m so happy those actions are finally yielding results! This is a step in the right direction and is so dear to my heart.

The bill, when signed to law by the President, would also help eliminate violence in private and public life, provide maximum protection, effective remedies for victims of violence and punishment of offenders.

The bill also prohibits abandonment of spouse, children and other dependents without sustenance as well as forbids battery and harmful traditional practices.

It equally prohibits economic abuse, forced isolation and separation from family and friends, substance attack, depriving persons of their liberty, incest, indecent exposure, among others.

I can’t wait to see this bill passed into law and for all Nigerians to enjoy a violence-free life. Let’s continue to raise our voices against such violent practices and protect children around us.

  • So Sad…. Rest In Peace Peter Bunor

I woke up this morning to the sad news that my friend, the veteran actor Peter Bunor has passed on.

His son, Peter Bunor Jnr made the announcement on Facebook saying:

‘In the early hours of today, my father, friend, teacher, confidant passed on.’

This breaks my heart so much. I remember fondly the early days of my career and how much of a strong support he was. It was always a delight to work with him. I learnt so much from him and always felt at ease in his presence. Peter was never one to make anyone feel intimidated or uneasy; he was friendly, supportive and extremely talented.

    Nollywood has lost a veteran.

My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this huge loss.

May his soul rest in peace.

  • INCREDIBLE! Four Month-Old Baby Rescued from Nepal Earthquake Rubble

Who said miracles don’t happen? That definitely is a big lie.

I saw these images today of a baby boy being pulled alive from the wreckage of the Nepal earthquake and it totally warmed my heart. In the midst of so much despair and disaster which has claimed at least 5,000 lives, this is something to rejoice about.

The four-month-old boy was pulled out alive, despite spending more than 22 hours trapped beneath the rubble.

According to news sources, the Military search teams had already scoured the area and moved on. But they returned after hearing a faint cry and began the process of carefully freeing the infant.

The boy was named locally as Sonit Awal and reported to be in stable condition.

    Great news!

  • My Heart Goes Out to Victims of the Nepal Earthquake

I was watching CNN a few hours ago and cringed every time I heard the death toll of victims of the Nepal Earthquake.

5000 people dead in one tragic event! This is so so sad.

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at 11:56 AM on April 25, 2015 and since then, news of the death toll and after effects have been pouring in in shocking numbers. More than 400,000 homes have been destroyed and hundreds are still missing.

My heart goes out to all those who have tragically died from the devastating earthquake

May every soul rest in peace, may the lost be found, may the wounded victims be healed and hearts be comforted.

SL Fabz, why don’t you join me and say a prayer for Nepal in the comments section.

  • If You Were A Book

Books are very important because they have been around for a long time. Books are timeless, and like a three way bridge, they preserve the minds of those that came before us, serve as custodians of present realities, and are counsellors for the future. So long as we are breathing, we should be reading.

In many ways, you are what you read.

If you were a book, what book would that be?

  • So Glad The Missing Orekoya Children Have Been Found!

I’ve just heard that the story has been confirmed! The missing Orekoya children have been found and reunited with their family.

Channels TV reports that: the kidnappers, faced by immense pressure the incident had generated abandoned the children in Shasha area of Lagos State, Nigeria’s south-west region.

Aderomola (11 months old), Adedamola (4 years old), and Demola (6 years old), were kidnapped by a nanny while their parents were away. The shocking part of this story is that this happened the same day she started working in their home.

It’s very heart warming to hear this news and this puts a smile on my face. Finally, the family’s ordeal is over and these innocent kids have been reunited with their parents and loved ones.

This is great news! And I thank God for their safe return.

  • Reflections…

One lesson I have learnt in life is to do these three things:

Retrospection: taking a journey into the past, and the lessons you have learnt. Here you do not hold on to false illusions that no longer exist, but you channel your energies to becoming a better you.

Introspection: doing a personal evaluation of your life: your feelings, motives and your thoughts. The decisions you have made, and the person you have become.

Conception: this is the stage where you birth the future. Where you give expression to the impressions your life journey has placed on you. Every phase, every step, every mistake, every tear, every failure, the scars cast our life’s frame are all entwined in unique tapestry that forms your life story.

Stay inspired. Your best is yet to come.

  • Congratulations To Tuedon Morgan, The First Nigerian To Reach The North Pole!

I love it when people set goals for themselves and achieve those goals despite how challenging the circumstances may seem. It is worth celebrating!

I am inspired by a story I just read of a lady, Tuedon Morgan, who has set a record as the first Nigerian to participate in one of the world’s most grueling sporting challenges, the North Pole Marathon. She did not only participate but finished the marathon successfully. The Nigerian who proudly waved her flag at the end of the race was among the 45 competitors who entered the event on April 9th, with participants from different countries and races.

The race is no small feat. The North Pole is run on Arctic ice floes, with 6 to 12 feet separating you from 12,000 feet of Arctic Ocean. Remember, this marathon is not run on land – it is run ‘on’ water, frozen water, in the high Arctic. To protect the athletes from polar bears or other dangerous animals during the race, snipers were placed around the running circuit.

Hers is a story of a woman who knows what she wants and sets out to achieve it despite the odds. I am truly proud of her and so happy to see the Nigerian flag at the finish line.

    Well done!!!

    Tuedon Morgan 1

  • A Prayer For The Orekoya’s

I have been following the shocking and unfolding story of three kids who were kidnapped from their home in Lagos recently and it just breaks my heart.

Three children from the Orekoya family: Aderomola (11 months old), Adedamola (4 years old), and Demola (6 years old), were kidnapped by a nanny while their parents were away. The shocking part of this story is that this happened the same day she started working in their home.

Now, I’m reading online that the nanny has finally gotten in contact with the children’s family and is demanding a N15million ransom! How cruel.

I sincerely pray for the bottom of my heart that these innocent kids are OK. I also pray they are found soon and returned to the safety of their parents and loved ones. Their parents must be going through an unimaginably difficult time right now and my heart goes out to them.

SL Fabz, join me in saying a word of prayer for these dear missing kids.
