  • How To Style A Polka Dot Outfit (With Pictures)

Polka dot dresses are fun and playful, creating a great template for adding accessories. When styling polka dots, make it the focal point of your outfit, so your accessories need to complement it rather than compete with it.

Black and white polka dots work with just about any color, so there’s plenty of options when you want to make a fashion statement.

Try wearing bold colored accessories with a neutral color dress. A polka dot dress in black, navy, white, beige, gray, or tan looks great with bright accessories. Wearing accessories in bright colors makes them stand out.

Narrow down the types of accessories you want to wear. This may depend on the size of the polka dots on the dress. For larger polka dots, stick to a couple large accessories. If the polka dots are smaller, stick to a couple smaller accessories and one large one.

If you’re not a fan of bold colors, you can still inject some personality into your black and white polka dot clothing by pairing them with softer shades. Pastels work really well with stark black and white dots and are often a little easier to wear than bright colors.

Finally, look for a body skimming cut that’s generous enough to let you move freely, for an easy breezy fashion vibe that feels effortlessly sophisticated.

Do you have any other tips for styling a polka dot outfit?

  • Style Friday: Denim Goodness!

Denim is my go-to style for that comfortable, but classy look. Denim on denim can be tricky to style, but when done correctly, it looks amazing and can be worn both day and night.

Before delving into shades of double blue, start out by pairing different shades of denim together, like white jeans and a blue denim jacket, or black jeans and a chambray shirt. It’s almost impossible to go wrong this way.

As long as you are wearing the right bottoms, you can layer a denim jacket over any shirt (like I did with a white shirt).

    Style Friday: Denim Goodness!

You can wear two different colours of denim to reduce the monotone of the outfit. It can be a combination of light and dark shades.

Play with different fits and fabric washes to put together an outfit that feels like it suits your fashion vibe.

Shoes are super-important with this look, too, so wear a pair you love that broadcasts your own style, whether that’s sneakers, loafers or heels.

  • 5 Accessories That Will Make Your Outfit Pop

‘A woman makes an outfit her own with accessories.’ – Oscar De La Renta couldn’t have put it better!

Ladies, whether you’re rocking a simple dress or one that’s setting major style goals, your accessories is what can really set it apart. Accessorizing an outfit can make or break an outfit, so here are some tips to give you an idea of where to start. 🙂

Tip #1: Add a POP with your purse!
Big bags, small bags, purses, clutches or satchels with fun colors or prints are the easiest way to brighten up an outfit. You can add a cute multi-print bag to a single coloured outfit and elevate the look entirely. Or, if you love keeping it simple and classy, a gold or silver clutch like this one I styled recently will do the trick!

    Tip #2: All jeweled up!
Jewelry… where do I even start?! The possibilities are truly endless. Whether you want to go minimal or wear a bold statement piece, there are several ways to jazz up your look with the right piece of jewelry. I love styling a simple outfit with bold earrings. I also love having those blings on my hand with rings and bangles.

    Tip #3: Buckle it out!
If you want to draw some attention to your waist, belts are the way to go. Not only will it make your waist look tiny, but adds a high fashion twist to anything you wear. Belts are a great way to put together a clean element to any outfit and they clinch your waist perfectly in a long flowing dress.

Tip #4: Put a ring on it!
This time-honoured piece of jewellery has the potential to amp up your outfit instantly. While different rings work with different outfits, there are some that you can wear with almost anything! Go for something that is of good quality so that it doesn’t start rusting after the first wear.

Tip #5: Don’t forget your hair!
Topping off an outfit with a great hairstyle is always a good idea. And if you don’t feel too confident with your hair, you can rock a suitable turban or hat.  Sometimes adding a cap is that finishing touch your outfit needs.

Bonus tip –  Finger and Toe nail polish could be a huge change in one’s look. I know from personal experience, having your nails and toes with the right polish would make a big difference in your outfit.

So ladies, add some lovely accessories to that outfit today and step out looking glam!

  • Fashionista On A Budget? 6 Ways To Keep You Looking Like A Million Bucks!

It is no longer news that Nigeria is in a recession and most times, it means is that people get to buy less for more. Not good at all, right?

One thing I am sure of is that, recession or not, Nigerians love to look good. You only need to go on Instagram to see the latest aso-ebi styles that are trending to confirm. If anything, our fashion industry is even growing faster than ever before. But I know that things are not always as they seem, and even when we want to look good, we have to be wise about spending.

So these are 5 tips to help you stay fashionable without breaking a bank:

    1. Look for Sales, Deals and Discounts:
At this period, you can’t afford any money going to waste. Keep your eyes on the look out for sales, deals and discounts. It’s a good thing that Easter is coming because many online shopping platforms offer their best deals during special periods like Mother’s Day, Black Friday, Christmas etc.

    2. Considering Selling or Trading Clothes You Don’t Wear: If you have nice things you don’t wear or use, consider selling them. That way, you make some extra cash to buy the clothes you really admire.

    3. Take a Friend along when Shopping: This is for those of use that have the tendency to overspend. Make sure you take a friend along that would keep you accountable. Be careful to ensure that this friend does not do the exact opposite (Lol!).

    4. Shop Off-Seasons: This may sound ironic, but a price surge usually happens when demand is greater than supply. So for example, a Red dress would be more expensive during Valentines season. Shopping off-seasons means you shop ahead of the season to avoid paying more due to high demand.

    5. Be Creative: Believe me, there are many creative ways to stay fashionable without poking holes in your pocket. Read fashion magazines, and try to recreate the styles there at a lesser cost. Repurpose your old clothes by bringing them to life with a little bit of DIY hacks. The good side to this is that you do not have to worry that someone else is wearing the same outfit as you.

    6. Shop Locally: This may be a good time to cut down on shopping at those international stores and ‘Buy Nigerian’ to keep costs lower.

  • Turban/Headwrap Styles That Can Glam Up Your Look

One of my favourite hair accessories is the Turban or Headwrap. It is a versatile, easy, stylish way to glam up your look especially on days when you have hair emergencies. It also allows you to protect the ends of your hair while still looking gorgeous.

The weekend is here again and it’s another opportunity for you to get your style game on. I hope you can find some “Stylespiration” from instances when I have rocked turbans or headwraps below:

Add a brooch with some glitter to turn your look from simple to glam!

I didn’t use any brooch on this turban, but I made sure I had some glitter in my accessories to make the look pop.

A small brooch can do the magic.

Let your hair down while using your turban for that casual and fun look that stands out!

For this photo shoot, the stylist used the same fabric from the dress for the turban. I love it!

Throwback to my preggy look…. Lol! I rocked this turban for the premiere of my movie ‘DRY’ in Abuja in 2015 with an evening dress.

Do you love using a Turban? How do you rock yours?

  • 6 Ways To Rock A Classic White Shirt

A white shirt can never go out of fashion. Almost every lady knows this. Whether it’s for a business meeting, a date or an informal outing with friends, there are several ways to rock the classic white button down shirt and look great all the time.

    Let’s get right to it.

    1. With a blazer

A white shirt can go with just about any colour of blazer. You can either choose to rock it with a skirt or a pair of trousers.

    2. With a pair of distressed jeans

Distressed jeans are in vogue now. Add this to a crisp white shirt and the right pair of heels and your look can be transformed from casual to semi-formal within seconds!

    3. With shorts

For a casual day out with friends or hanging out at the beach, this look will be very comfortable.

    4. With Jeans
Of course, I couldn’t miss this one out. The classic white shirt with the classic blue jeans. Don’t forget to add a great pair of shoes to the look.

    5. With a skirt

I love this girly and fun look. You can also opt for a straight skirt if you want something more formal.

    6. With a Cape

I decided to rock this look on a particularly windy day. The detachable cape can be rocked in different styles and colours to spice up the look.

Are you the proud owner of a white button-down shirt? How do you prefer to style yours? I’d love to read your comments!

  • Matching Pattern And Prints

There were times, when mixing pattern and prints was a “fashion taboo” but now, it is a fashion trend being embraced by most ladies. Mixing prints and patterns is a bold and fashionable way to play with your wardrobe. It allows you to create outfit combinations you probably never would have imagined look good together.

Definitely, there are rules that guide this game, as not every pattern/print mix is acceptable. Also, mixing can go terribly wrong, so it’s important to keep a few helpful tips in mind…

    1. Match colours not print: if the colours go well together, the patterns would most likely go well together.
    2. The simpler and more graphic the prints are, the easier they are to match. For example: black and white stripes go with most things; the same applies to gingham prints and hounds tooth. They are easier to mix with floral and animal prints.
    3. You could always include a neutral to calm your outfit down, if you think it looks too busy. Just like I did with my yellow blazer in the pic above. This draws some attention away from the busy outfit.

Do you have any other tips for mixing patterns and prints? Do share.

    Stay glam and fab!

  • Help Me Pick A Dress

It’s a bright sunny day and I’m in the mood for wearing something floral and breezy.

I have this white pair of sandals and I’m fond of wearing them often with leggings. But I’d like to change thing up a bit and pair it with a dress.

So, do you think this Carrie printed boat neck dress will do:

    printed dress 1

Or the Mahaut sleeveless striped tank top & Eleta striped asymmetric maxi skirt

    Dress 2

I love both dresses but I can’t seem to pick one. Which should I go for?
