  • 5 Reasons Why Every Lady Should Wear Heels

Heels are an important part of the fashionable woman’s wardrobe.

For different reasons, not every lady can wear heels. I know that. There was a point in my life I had to stop wearing heels for a while after an accident, so this is not to say everyone MUST wear heels. But we can’t deny that a great pair of heels does a lot to a woman’s confidence and gait in positive ways.

Here are 5 reasons why I think its absolutely important for a lady to wear a pair of heels, at least once in a while:

    1. They Draw Attention To Your Feet
If you want to make a good first impression on anyone – man or woman – wear a pair of heels. A woman wearing heels definitely draws attention. Men love a woman in heels, and a great pair of heels can also draw compliments from other women. Stylish looking heels are an excellent way for a woman to add a focal point to an outfit.

    2. They Boost Your Confidence
Walking in a pair of heels gives you a certain gait that is more confident than walking in flats. It adds some extra flair to your outfit and gives you a certain height that makes for a more assertive appearance. A good pair of heels makes a lady feel better about how she looks and this generally adds to her confidence.

    3. They Accentuate Your Legs
A good pair of comfortable heels can make a lady’s legs look amazing. Not only do wearing high heels give the look of long and sexy legs, but they can also tone a woman’s leg muscles.

    4. They Add Extra Height
I know what you’re thinking. I’m tall already and don’t need the height. Yeah, right! You’d be surprised that tall ladies can benefit from heels. Especially someone like me who has a very tall hubby *wink*.

There are some dresses that just don’t go well with flats. The heels are needed to boost one’s height for that complete and confident look, and believe me, this is the number one reason why women around the world wear high heels. Women may want to add height in a number of different situations. They may want to match their height to a taller date. If a petite woman want to feel taller and more confident, all she has to do is throw on a pair of heels.

    5. They Make You Look Trimmer
High heels, just like outfits such as skinny pants, make one look thinner in part because they force a woman to stand taller. This gives the appearance of a trim figure which is really what most women want.

So ladies, would you be wearing a pair of heels today? What is the primary reason why you wear heels?

  • Monday Look: Move From Simple To Glam

    Hey SL Fabz,

I hope you had a fab weekend.

It’s a fresh new week in a fresh new month and time to step out to achieve your dreams. Mondays are usually associated with work, appointment, meetings… and the dress code for most people is formal. But formal doesn’t have to be boring, does it? There are several ways you can accessorize a plain outfit to make it pop.

I’m gonna take inspiration from one of my recent looks for this.

    1. Statement Neck Piece: Place a bit of gold, silver or some costume jewelry on a plain outfit and see the dramatic outcome.

    2. Belt: The right kind of belt can make any dress pop. Belts are also great in showing your great figure or hiding a large waist line.

    3. Watches & Bracelets: Don’t forget the hands! On Mondays, we might be in such a hurry to get dressed and meet that appointment, but don’t forget that a little bling on your hands will make a good impression when you reach out for a handshake.

    4. Shoes: They might be at the bottom of your outfit, but they play such a huge role in your entire look. The right kind of shoes can literally turn heads. Wearing appropriate shoes also affects the way you walk so although you might opt for heels, make sure its something comfortable that you can walk in or wear for a long time.

Here’s how I put my look together. What do you think? What else can you use to accessorize your outfit for that special Monday look? And please tell me, what colour of bag would go well with this outfit?

  • Every Lady Needs A Little Black Dress

One is never overdressed or underdressed with a little black dressKarl Lagerfeld

I couldn’t agree more with the quote above. Infact, I’d have to add that it’s a wardrobe staple—a must-have item for any woman who wants to dress her best.

A Little Black Dress is a simple, often quite short dress. It is most times an evening or cocktail dress, and could also be a formal wear. You can never go wrong with a LBD. It could be paired with any gorgeous shoe, complemented with a statement accessory or a brooch to make it pop.

Have you noticed you feel a certain kind of confidence and look really smart in a Little Black Dress? Well I have, and its something I usually reach out for when I need to make a statement and also feel comfortable.

Here are some tips to pick the right Little Black Dress:

    1. Know your body shape and pick a style and cut that flatters your shape.
    2. Be sure it plays up your feminine side, reflects your personal style and is age appropriate for you.
    3. If you can only afford one LBD then choose a classic silhouette
    4. Always accessorize your LBD with modern elements, creating multiple looks for day and night.
    5. Be sure it fits you perfectly! A tailor can help; they’ll make your LBD ‘magically’ fit!

Wear it often and just have fun with it!

    Have a fab weekend.

  • 4 Ways To Rock A Blazer

I love blazers! I’ve got them in several colours and they are great for toning down or spicing up your looks. For instance, if you don’t want to look too casual and you want a bit of ‘formal’ in your outfit, a blazer is the way to go.

There are several ways to rock a blazer and today, I’m gonna be sharing 4 of them with you.

    1. On a pair of black skinny pants: I’m gonna start with my look in this picture above. This look will see you through almost any occasion with class. Wear your black blazer with a pair of narrow black pants (from black denim to leather to cotton), and add a loose top. Finish the look off with a pair of classy heels and you’ve nailed relaxed chic.

    2. On a pair of blue jeans: Well, we already know that a perfectly structured blazer goes well with blue jeans, the skinnier the better. Underneath your blazer, you can wear a crisp white shirt and a chunky buckled belt, then add a long statement necklace, sunglasses and you’re good to go.

    3. Over a short, fitted gown: Do you want to make an impression at a party but don’t want to look like someone coming from a club? Simply add a sleek blazer to any sparkly or skintight dress to instantly tone down the flashy factor. Pair it with a killer pair of spiked stilettos and a sleek clutch and you’ve got a glamorous but sophisticated look.

    4. Over a maxi skirt: Wear your favorite blazer over a maxi skirt for a look that’s both classic and modern. The long flowing lines on the skirt perfectly play up the crisp cropped tailoring of the blazer. Style it with a simple fitted top and chunky heels.

  • Groovy Friday: What Not To Wear To A Wedding

    Hi SL Fabz,

The weekend is almost here, and I’m sure we are getting ready to unwind and have fun.

Most of us would be attending wedding ceremonies this weekend, right? I think I hear ‘Yes’. So, let’s have a chat on outfits that shouldn’t be worn to weddings.

Fashion in its ever evolving nature has ruled out some of the things we took as norms with regards to wedding guest outfits. Previously, the rule was that only a bride should wear white on her wedding day, but that has changed. Now brides even dress their bridesmaids in white and sometimes ask their guests to dress in white too. (Remember Solange’s wedding). But I still know some people frown against this.

However colours aside, there are some outfits that are just not cool to be worn to weddings. I asked a few people and this is the list we came up with:

    Ladies:

    1.  A very short dress
    2. A very tight dress
    3. A very tight and short dress
    4. A super sparkly dress
    5. Anything too loud or garish
    6. A dress that exposes too much cleavage

    Men

    1. Jeans trousers
    2. Sagging trousers
    3. Shorts
    4. A hooded shirt
    5. A t-shirt
    6. A tuxedo (only meant for the groom)

The overall idea when picking an outfit for a wedding is that what you wear should not outshine the bride or groom because its their day not yours. Also, don’t dress too casual or look out of place.

Dearest fashionistas, I’d love to know what you think. What are the outfits you shouldn’t wear to a wedding? What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen anyone wear to a wedding?

And, if you were a bride, would you like anyone to wear a white dress to your wedding?

    Let’s discuss!

  • 4 Reasons Why You Should Dress For Yourself Instead Of Others

Many times, we worry about whether the way we dress is accepted by other people in the society and put this over our own desires. This happens mostly among us women. Sometimes, we want to dress in a particular way but don’t because we think people will mock us or the society won’t accept us.

It’s time for us to begin to live in our own skin and dress for ourselves. Here are 4 reasons why:

    1. You’ll be more comfortable
When you love what you’re wearing, you’ll be so much comfortable, even if what you love wearing is a great pair of heels. When you’re not worrying about what other people think or what they expect from you, you’ll feel more comfortable in your clothes and skin, which is always a positive!

    2. No one really cares
It’s very hard for us to see this, but its the truth. Don’t let the voice inside your head tell you that everyone’s judging you. Be yourself. I know this is even harder for me as a celeb because I am more in the public eye than most people. But truth is many just want to things to gossip, write or blog about. If I put their desires above mine, I’d be dressing for them not me and that’s really not cool.

    3. Don’t try to be someone else
It’s so hard living in someone else’s skin and if you try this, you’d realize that its totally worthless. Don’t dress because you want to please your friends, your colleagues, your admirers… One day you’d get tired of it and when you decide to dress for yourself, you’d be shocked to realize how it affects your relationships.

    4. You’ll feel more confident
Overall, when you dress for yourself, you’ll start to feel happier and more confident on both your inward and outward appearances. You won’t be worried about what other people think of you, and you’ll be proud to be dressing for yourself instead of others!

SL Fabz, do you dress for yourself instead of anyone else? Do you have other reasons to add to this list?

    Let’s share!
