  • You Are Enough

Today’s post was inspired by the quote below. Many times, we put less value on ourselves because of other people’s opinion about us. By doing so, we give power to others to make us victims.

I want to encourage someone reading this today: You are enough, You are special, You are beautiful, You deserve whatever goodness comes your way. Don’t let someone dictate your worth to you. Place that value on yourself and walk with your shoulders raised high because you are special.

So go out there and love yourself. Move forward with confidence and grace in your step.

  • What is your favourite book by Chinua Achebe?

Today, I opened my browser and was pleasantly surprised to find that the Google was celebrating the legacy of the renowned Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. Today would have been his 87th Birthday and Google honoured the late literary icon with a Google Doodle.

One of my favourite books by this late author is Things Fall Apart. This was his first and most popular novel which sold more than 20 million copies and has been translated into 57 different languages. Other great works of his include: “No Longer at Ease”, “Arrow of God”, “A Man of the People”, and “Anthills of the Savannah”. He also wrote several short stories and essays

Chinua Achebe died in 2013 at the age of 82, but his legendary work and classic novels sure keep him alive, and we’re glad the world still remembers him!

  • Happy World Teacher’s Day!

Today is World Teacher’s Day. This year’s theme is: Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers.

I’ll like to send a shout out to all hardworking teachers on this special day. You play a very important role in building society. Without teachers, there’s no future. The future and the children who we believe will build that future rely on you to make that dream come true.

We appreciate teachers who teach even when there are no facilities. They teach despite it all.

    Well done! Happy Teacher’s Day!

  • A CELEBRATION OF THE NIGERIAN

It’s been 57 years since our beloved country became independent. Despite our differences, pummeled by tribal and religious issues, we stand firm. Every nation has its own challenges and Nigeria is no different. Regardless of this fact, we have been able to hold our forte as citizens. We are hardworking and always crave for new opportunities.
We do not wait for the country to provide for us; we are nation builders in the areas we occupy.

So this is actually a celebration of the Nigerian citizen. We are marking the 57th anniversary of this nation today. We are grateful to God for how far we have come. 57 years, yet a lot to learn and achieve. We will get there.

    Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.

  • Skills To Learn While School Is On Strike

Education in Nigeria is tough. One minute you are in class, the next minute ASUU is on strike. Some schools strike for more times in a year than they actually teach. It’s sad. And it feels like the youth are going to waste. How do you occupy yourself when your university or polytechnic is locked down?

Here are a few skills you can learn and engage in:

ICT: The world is fast evolving and as youths, it is essential that we move at the same pace. While school is not in session, take out time to learn more about ICT. Coding is the future, and that future starts now! It will take you to a great level in life.

Bead Making: Fashion cannot go out of demand. Learning how to make jewellery will become beneficial depending on how dynamic and creative you are.

Bag Making and Foot Wears: Bags are very essential in our everyday activities. You can learn beyond making ladies handbags. Include men bags, children bags and any other style that suits the market. Also put footwear in the mix. It is also very important that you know your target market.

Phone Repairs: Phones are essential tools for us as humans. It transcends beyond a means of communication. It has evolved into a tool for doing businesses. When it becomes faulty, it is only natural that individuals who can sort the faults of the phones are sourced. Why not capitalise on this venture and learn it as a skill.

Cooking: We all love food, don’t we? Learning to cook varieties of food will guarantee you a source of income either in the present time or in the long run.

Baking: Making use of your holiday from school to learn baking is not a bad idea really. In fact, it is a welcome idea. Do not allow the increasing number in the field to deter you because there is often an
opportunity that needs to be utilised.

  • Back to school tips: Getting Kids Ready

The holidays are almost over. Children will be heading back to school soon. Parents, are you ready?

It was a long holiday, so children would either be looking forward to a new academic year or in many cases, there’d wish the holidays to last forever. LOL!

Here are a few tricks to get them ready for a new school session:

Kids have been sleeping late all through the holidays, catching up with their favourite TV shows? Well, it’s time to reinstate bedtime hours in preparation for school resumption. The most appropriate time to have them in bed should be, at least, by 8.30pm. This prepares them in advance for the new term in school.

Have they been reading this holidays? No? Ok, it is time to get them to read before school starts. Get them a novel or a story book. Let them ease into the tradition of reading to sharpen their senses before school resumes.

Waking up early is the usual practice. Kids wake up, sometimes, as early as 5.30am to get ready for school. So it is time to return to that habit. That’s why they need to sleep early. Get the alarm clock working so they are never late.

Instruct them to clean up their wardrobe and rearrange their items in order of priority. When that is done, you’d be able to decide what necessary things to buy for the new term.

Give them that pep talk about going back to school. Prepare their minds on what to expect, how to behave, how to interact and how to handle situations. Teach them about kindness, strength of character, the ability to listen, how to approach matters etc. They survive on their own in school without your physical supervision, you need to furnish them with life tips regularly.

Here’s wishing all Nigerian children a great new academic year ahead.

  • How to live on a low income

We all want to save for the rainy season, literally and figuratively. We want to have enough money to go on vacations and also get enough money to buy our dream house. All of that can seem impossible if you earn a low income.

Over 80% of Nigerians live on a budget and are barely getting by. How then do we tell people to save when they don’t have enough? It’s all in the DISCIPLINE of surviving. Little by little, if you put aside something every week or month, it gathers and becomes a storm.

    Let’s start now.

What can you do to live on a low income without losing financial steam?

    Stay Debt-Free!

Stop borrowing money. It’ the first step to living within your means. Being in debt is never a good idea. If you can, stay away from living in debt; unless in situations you can’t handle like health emergencies. For rent, live in a place you can afford yearly. Try as much as possible to keep your head above water as regards to money.

    Cut Down Your Expenses:

Don’t buy stuff that your income cannot justify. If it’s above your financial ability, let it go. There are so many other things you can get at a bargain. Do not live a Champagne life on a beer budget. It’ll hurt your finances badly.

    Save Free Money:

If you get a windfall, you know what to do? SAVE IT! You weren’t expecting it, were you? So save it. Do not live lavishly on a financial gift. Ensure you plan your life based on your income. Any extras should be kept aside. It might seem too harsh to live this way, but the end result of your decisions will make you proud.

    Start A Side Hustle:

Very important! My dear, find something to do by the side. Apparently, your day job or day business needs to be supported. The money just isn’t enough. Find something worthwhile to engage you during free hours. Not too many people can survive on just one source of income. Besides, if you lose your job, what would you do then?

However, without DISCIPLINE none of these can be achieved. Whether rich or struggling, the best means to financial freedom is FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE.

    Good luck!

  • Have you ever been rejected 30 times?

Imagine trying to get a job for a record of 30 times, and every single time you were turned down, what would you do?

Will you give up or keep trying?

A very successful entrepreneur, Jack Ma, founder of alibaba.com says you should NEVER give up.

    Here’s his story:

He applied for college twice, and failed.

He applied for jobs up to 30 times, including KFC, and was turned down. Actually he was the only one who was rejected out of 24 people.

At this point, you’d think he was jinxed, right?

He didn’t care. He finally got  job as a teacher, earning peanuts. But he loved his job and didn’t worry much about the meager pay.

When he tried to get into Harvard, he was rejected 10 times. Whew!

For many people, this would have been the end of the road. They would throw in the towel. But not Jack Ma!

When the internet became a thing in China, he was fascinated by it.

His first two ventures failed. Eventually he called 17 people and shared the idea of alibaba.com, where wholesalers can sell their products directly to retailers and customers. That idea became a huge success.

Jack Ma is presently worth over $29billion!

If this doesn’t motivate you to get up and make your dreams happen no matter what, then I don’t know what else will.
