These words…

From the 2002 movie, Antwone Fisher:

“Now you listen to me. This is MY TIME! No matter what you did, you couldn’t break me. I’m still standing! I’m still strong! And I always will be.”

A much older and accomplished Antwone Fisher confronted his foster parent, Mrs Tate, with those words.

I get goose bumps every time I hear it. Powerful confirmation!

Happy Thursday!Smile

i have watched that movie a 100 times over and know it line my line and that was my favourite line.

For a 1st time – first ever movie that Derek Luke did and i have always loved him for that. I have never seen a first timer in amovie do so excellent. Denzel undeniably has great eye for talent. When it comes to casting i want to be like Denzel. My ultimate dream to 100% cast an african movie some day and to challenge myself cast 100% new faces who can take the audience by storm.

Gosh i love watching movies, movies run thru my blood.

ps: Steph wishing you the best on this blog. blogging aint easy, its time consuming, but worth it. I am now managing 2 blogs and it takes all my time, the movie review one (which i choose not to update until african movies come out with something bettter cos i refuse to review junk) and my new blog – An interior Design blog.

Love your blog Steph. Keep it up/

another interesting phrase from the movie is when Ms Tate calls him “Niggeerrrrrr” – like its some type of term of endearment.

Derek Luke really nailed that movie. Great underrated actor – Wish him an oscar someday.

I was so obsessed with this movie, i was in b-school at that time in Cleveland (CWRU) when the movie came out and actually took time to go tour the neighborhood where Antwone grew up, His foster parents home was practically a stone throw from his fathers family home and for decades when he was going thru torture with his foster parents (Ms Tate) – he never knew. What a small world huh? As i slowly drove thru the neighborhood i was just imagining poor lil Antwone and allthe abuse he went thru. When i read a book (as i did Antwone b4 i even watched the movie) i like to live the moment or try to put my self in that time and thats why i like to visit the area it happened. I did the same thing with Curtis Jackson (50) bio, “From Pieces To Weight”, i took time to go and visit those projects in South Side Jamaica Queens – it was a rainy day in Sept 2005, i was scared – cos they way the book depicts the area . baisley projects (116-80 Guy R Brewer) and South Jamaica Estates (aka Forties Project). I could not believe such a small housing project had so much going on in the 80s that no one knew about.

Denzel when are you coming out with another movie. We miss your productions. I wish our veteran RMD will also get behind the camera sometime. Rmd rocks
