  • 3 Delicious Health Benefits Of Eating Chocolate

I know you’re probably smiling while reading this post. Why wouldn’t you? Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you’re gearing up to eat as much chocolate as you can!

I’m not here to say you should over indulge yourself and eat so much chocolate… No. Chocolate has been said to cause a lot of problems including acne and obesity when taken in large enough quantities. But in recent years, studies have found that eating small amounts of the right kind of chocolate can actually be healthy.

Studies show that Dark Chocolate (not just any kind of chocolate) is loaded with nutrients that can positively affect your health. Take a look at some of the surprising health benefits of chocolate:

    A Healthier Heart
Regular chocolate eaters welcome a host of benefits for their hearts, including lower blood pressure, lower “bad” LDL cholesterol and a lower risk of heart disease.

One of the reasons dark chocolate is especially heart-healthy is its inflammation-fighting properties, which reduce cardiovascular risk. A study showed that chocolate 5+ times per week lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease by 57%.  Another recent study in Australia showed that eating chocolate high in healthy antioxidants reduced the blood pressure-raising effects of exercise on overweight individuals.

    A Good Source Of Antioxidants
Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants help free your body of free radicals, which cause oxidative damage to cells. Free radicals are implicated in the aging process and may be a cause of cancer, so eating antioxidant rich foods like dark chocolate can protect you from many types of cancer and slow the signs of aging.

    Reduces Risk Of Stroke
A 2011 Swedish study found that women who ate more than 45 grams of chocolate a week had a 20 percent lower risk of stroke than women who treated themselves to fewer than 9 grams of the sweet stuff. Dark chocolate increases blood flow to the brain as well as to the heart, so it can help improve cognitive function. This helps reduce your risk of stroke.

I found other health benefits of chocolate while doing some research but these three above struck me the most.

Because it’s rich in fiber, dark chocolate can actually help keep you full, so you’ll eat less. It also contains a number of vitamins and minerals that can support your health such as Potassium, Copper, Magnesium and Iron. The bioactive compounds in dark chocolate are also great for your skin. And let’s not forget its amazing taste. Hmm…. Yummy.

SL Fabz, don’t forget. Eat chocolate in moderation. Don’t go overboard, chocolate still contains sugar and fat. Enjoy a little bit of it for its great health benefits.

    Have a Sweet Friday!

  • Talk To Steph: All He Wants Is S**

A reader left this comment in a recent ‘Talk To Steph’ post which I just had to share.

Hi Steph, all he wants is sex! I love him so much and I believe he loves me too. But any time I refuse sex, we end up in a fight and that has become a big problem for me. I have tried discussing it with him several times but he failed to reason with me. I’m afraid that if I leave him, I won’t be able to get a better guy. Whenever I’m with him, sex must be involved. I don’t want to be deceived Steph.

SL Fabz, please give her some good advice in dealing with this situation.

*Remember, if you have a challenge in your relationship that you need advice for, please send an email to info@stephaniedaily.com with the subject ‘Talk To Steph’

  • Congratulations to the Nigerian Who Won a Grammy!

Ever since I heard some songs from this group ‘Pentatonix‘, I fell in love with them. So imagine my excitement when I heard that the cute African American guy in the group is actually a Nigerian!

His name is Kevin Olusola and not only does he have an amazing voice, he can make some interesting sounds with his mouth and throat that blends so well with other members of the group.

At the recent Grammy Awards, Kevin picked up an award alongside his acapella band, Pentatonix taking home the award in the ‘Arrangement, Instrumental or Acappella’ category for their medley ‘Daft Punk’, a remake of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”.

Even though he won it not as a Solo Artist but in a group, this is still a great feat. Congratulations! I am so proud of you.

Here are few interesting facts about Kevin:

kevin olusolaBorn in the United States to Nigerian father and Grenadian mother, Kelvin is a 26 year old beatboxer. He is a graduate of prestigious IVY League college, Yale University from where he graduated in 2011 with a degree in East Asian Studies. Kelvin is not just a musician, he’s super smart too. • Did You Know? The Real Meaning Of ‘Bae’

There are some words so commonly used on Social Media and because it has gotten so much acceptance, we adopt it without knowing what it really means.

Today, I came across a meaning of the word ‘Bae‘ and I was totally shocked.

Bae is most often used as a term of endearment, often referring to your boyfriend or girlfriend. We see people posting pics online with the words ‘Chilling with my bae’, ‘I love you bae’. Maybe I’ve been guilty of it too *hides face*. So imagine my shock when I saw this:

    According to the Urban Dictionary:

Bæ/bae is a Danish word for poop. Also used by people on the internet who think it means baby, sweetie etc.

But come to the Internet world, Bae has a totally different meaning. Some people even use it as a hashtag #BaeBeLike. Bae to many means the short form of Babe or Baby, and I guess its here to stay. But imagine you calling someone your ‘Bae’ and someone in another part of the world is calling poop that same word…. eeeew!

What do you think? Do you call that special someone in your life ‘Bae’? What does the word mean to you? Do you know of any other common words that have weird meanings?

  • 6 Cool Ways To Enjoy Valentine’s Day Without Spending Too Much

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I’m sure you are gearing up for a fab day with that special someone. You’re probably wondering how you are gonna fit in your spending to your tight budget. I’ve got news for you! Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to cost a lot of money for the experience to be romantic. Here are 6 interesting ways to show love without bursting your wallet:

    1. Cook Dinner Together
Skip the expensive restaurants and make a homemade meal instead — but one more fancy than an ordinary night’s dinner. Spark some romance while preparing dinner together. Choose a dish that you both love and work side-by-side in the kitchen to prepare it. Play some music to add some more romance to the experience and then enjoy eating the meal together, after you have prepared it.

    2. DIY Gifts
Instead of buying a super expensive piece of jewelry or something equally as wallet-busting, give a unique and personal token of your love. You don’t need to spend a small fortune to show the object of your affections that you care about them so why not make your own personal gift. It can be a photo collage or short video you compiled of the two of you. Whatever you choose to design, no one can resist a gift made with love.

    3. Go Dancing
Its really not that expensive to find a good place around where they play your favourite music. Just go dancing! Put on your dancing shoes and get close with your significant other.

    4. Write It Out
You don’t have to be a super writer to write from your heart. It could be a Poem, a Letter or a short note. Search deep into your heart and write sweet words for your love. Let your loved one know just how much he or she means to you in writing.

    5. Re-enact Your First Date
Do you remember the place you had your first date? Or the place you first met? It is very likely your first date together wasn’t too expensive so why not recreate that special moment all over again. This will surely melt his/her heart and would give you time to recount the lovely memories of being together.

    6. Get Creative in the Bedroom
Hmm… this is for married couples only *wink*.
One of the best parts of Valentine’s Day is the facilitation of intimacy. This year, kick your bedroom antics up a notch and get creative by making it a night to remember.

SL Fabz, what do you think of this list? Would you be doing any of these on Valentine’s Day?

Do you have more tips to add?

  • Time Is Precious, Waste It Wisely

Time is a gift from God. Have you ever thought about it like that before? It is precious, once a moment is lost, wasted it can never be recovered. It will forever remain a part of our history, indelibly written in our past, unchangeable.

So, SL Fabz. How do you manage your time?

A lot of us have goals we desire to achieve, but don’t create time for achieving these goals.

I feel guilty when I spend time doing nothing, unable to value the rhythm between rest and productivity, allowing the two to merge together all too often.

If we have wasted that moment, missed out on an opportunity to move closer to the achievement of our dreams, we have lost something precious.’

There are so many distractions in today’s world that it becomes extremely easy to waste your precious time in unproductive activities. We waste precious hours each day on mindless tasks and distractions.

Today, I’d just like to encourage us on managing time wisely. Know your purpose and keep reminding yourself of what you want to accomplish in your life.

Time is precious, waste it wisely. Tomorrow is not promised. Make today count.

    Have a great week!

  • Sunday Thots: Grace That Endures

If there is anything we can’t deny to have received from God, it is His Grace.

Grace means getting something that you do not deserve; unmerited favor. It is an eternal gift we have received and on this beautiful Sunday, I’d just like to remind us of some scriptures that speak of the importance and benefits of Grace.

    1. Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

    2. 1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

    3. Acts 6:8
And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.

    4. 1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you

    5. Ephesians 2:4-9
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

    Stay blessed!

  • What Do Women Find Most Attractive In Men?

It’s always so interesting to read your comments every time we have to discuss a topic on relationships. The last time we discussed something similar about what men find most attractive in women, we had an interesting debate in the comment section. I’m positive today’s topic is even gonna be hotter!

So, tell me SL Fabz, what are the general traits that women find attractive in men?

As usual, I asked around and these are the most common responses I got.

    1. A good physique: Most Naija women like their men tall, dark and handsome. Ok, maybe not all like them dark, but most likely tall and handsome with a good physique that speaks of confidence and good composure.

    2. A financially comfortable man: A woman is attracted to a man who can take care of himself financially, and also his family. A man who is financially capable of giving his woman comfort is usually more attractive than a man who can’t in most cases.

    3. A romantic man: Find a man who can say ‘I love you‘ at the right time, who knows when to take his woman on romantic dates, buy her romantic gifts… and you’ve found a woman’s man.

    4. ______________

Let me stop here and allow you to complete the list. What do women find most attractive in men?
