  • 4 Ways To Rock A Blazer

I love blazers! I’ve got them in several colours and they are great for toning down or spicing up your looks. For instance, if you don’t want to look too casual and you want a bit of ‘formal’ in your outfit, a blazer is the way to go.

There are several ways to rock a blazer and today, I’m gonna be sharing 4 of them with you.

    1. On a pair of black skinny pants: I’m gonna start with my look in this picture above. This look will see you through almost any occasion with class. Wear your black blazer with a pair of narrow black pants (from black denim to leather to cotton), and add a loose top. Finish the look off with a pair of classy heels and you’ve nailed relaxed chic.

    2. On a pair of blue jeans: Well, we already know that a perfectly structured blazer goes well with blue jeans, the skinnier the better. Underneath your blazer, you can wear a crisp white shirt and a chunky buckled belt, then add a long statement necklace, sunglasses and you’re good to go.

    3. Over a short, fitted gown: Do you want to make an impression at a party but don’t want to look like someone coming from a club? Simply add a sleek blazer to any sparkly or skintight dress to instantly tone down the flashy factor. Pair it with a killer pair of spiked stilettos and a sleek clutch and you’ve got a glamorous but sophisticated look.

    4. Over a maxi skirt: Wear your favorite blazer over a maxi skirt for a look that’s both classic and modern. The long flowing lines on the skirt perfectly play up the crisp cropped tailoring of the blazer. Style it with a simple fitted top and chunky heels.

My stylistas in the house… any other looks to add?

  • Stephanie’s Poll: Money vs Time

We can’t deny the fact that for every marriage to pass the test of time, comfort which comes from having good finances and quality time are both important. The question for today is, which one is most important to you?

    Let’s examine both scenarios:

Without having enough money to cater for one’s needs, it puts a strain on marriages. These days women are not comfortable when they have to rely on their husbands for every financial responsibility.

On the other hand, a couple who do not spend enough quality time together as a result of very busy work schedules often have a big gap in their relationship. It gets even worse when children are involved. When children don’t spend enough time with their mother because she is too busy with work, there could be grave consequences.

As a man, would you prefer to have a wife who earns a lot of money and spends less time at home with the family or would you prefer a wife who has all the time in the world for the family and earns very little or nothing?

Let’s be realistic SL Fabz. I’d love to hear from you.

  • 6 Surprising Habits That Make You Gain Weight

Everyone likes to stay fit. No, scrap that. Everyone needs to stay fit, and healthy.

Whether we like to admit it or not, our weight is directly linked to our health. Being overweight and being underweight have adverse consequences on our health and are situations we must avoid at all cost. Unfortunately, its a bit difficult. French fries taste better than side salads and chicken is yummier when grilled or fried.

However, a healthy weight is a lot easier to accomplish when the right choices are taken. Here are some surprisingly wrong choices you might have been practicing that is causing you to gain weight:

    Taking Big Bites
Avoid spooning very large portions of food into your mouth. Cut your food into smaller pieces, use a smaller fork or spoon. You increase enjoyment and take longer to eat, which increases your satisfaction. Research has shown that people who took large bites of food consumed 52% more calories in one sitting than those who took small bites and chewed longer!

    Not Getting Enough Sleep
You don’t even need to be conscious to work on losing weight. Getting the right amount of sleep is a major factor in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Sleep is essential for your metabolism, your blood-sugar regulation, appropriate hormone balance and energy health.

    Skipping Meals
The problem is, skipping meals actually increases your chances of obesity, especially when it comes to breakfast. A study has shown that people who cut out the morning meal were 4.5 times more likely to be obese. Why? Skipping meals slows your metabolism and boosts your hunger. That puts your body in prime fat-storage mode and increases your chances of overeating at the next meal.

    Eating Heavy Dinner
When you hit your body with so much food at dinner, it can be difficult for the body to digest and process it all. The extra can be converted into fatty acids and lead to weight gain.

    Watching TV While Eating
When you watch television, you’re not fully concentrating on anything else that you’re doing, and this includes eating. You get distracted while eating and tend to eat much more. Sometimes, you may not even remember all of what you ate! Statistics also show you eat 5-10 times more when you eat while watching TV.

    Eating Too Quickly
It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it’s had enough. Slow eaters eat fewer calories per meal than fast eaters. So if you are concerned about that weight, cut down your speed.

I personally learnt something new while writing this. I didn’t know that eating while watching TV could make me gain weight!

SL Fabz, do you have any other habit to add to this list? Are you guilty of any of the above habits?

  • What Do Men Find Most Attractive In Women?

There’s a saying that goes thus – ‘One man’s meat is another man’s poison‘.

This applies to a variety of things, including a man’s type of woman. One man might like a slim woman, another might like a plump one. One man might like a dark skinned woman while another might like a light skinned one.

However, there are general traits that men tend to like in women, things that attract them.

I asked a few people and here are the most common answers I heard:

    1. A confident woman: A man likes a woman who is sure of her self, who speaks well, raises her head up high and can hold her ground anywhere.

    2. A beautiful woman: A man likes to look at pleasant things and a woman with a pleasant face and features is just right for him.

    3. A respectful woman: Most men have big egos and they like a woman who can stroke it and not disrespect it. Men in general are attracted to women who have a good level of respect for them.

    4. ______________

I want to know what you think. SL Fabz, complete the list. What do men find most attractive in women?

This question is for guys and ladies so let the comments roll in!

  • 5 Positive Words To Live By This Week

Hey SL Fabz, this week is going to be awesome, I’m sure of it. Let’s strike out the negativity and stay positive while living by these 5 words:

Love: Love is truly the greatest gift of all. Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses. When love is your guiding light, you can break through barriers to be of loving service to the world.

Positivity: The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts. Think positive in every situation and surround yourself with optimistic people who would not draw you back. Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results. Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

Truth: Of all the traits the happiest people share in common, one outshines them all. In fact, without it, genuine happiness can’t exist. That trait is truthfulness.Tell yourself the truth always and be truthful to others. Don’t be dishonest or put up with dishonest people.

Persistence:  Any great accomplishment that has ever been achieved has been brought about and made possible by an all important trait called persistence. The ability to hold on or to get back up after we have been knocked down is essential for us to achieve any real success, because there will be failures along the way and it’s how we deal with these failures that will determine the outcome of any endeavour that we undertake.

Appreciation: Instead of thinking about what you’re missing, think about what you have that everyone else is missing. When you express your approval or gratitude for something someone has done to you, you will not only enhance their lives, but you will enrich yours as well.  You will feel more fulfilled because you have done something to make someone else’s life better.

Stay positive and enjoy your week!

  • Happy New Month SL Fabz!

I can’t believe the first month of the year is already gone! Welcome to a new month, Welcome to February!

It seems like it was just yesterday when we were wishing each other a happy new year. Now its one month down, eleven more to go.

Life wasn’t built to pity, time don’t wait, it keeps doing what it knows how to to best … ‘tick’. Every second counts, do as much as you can do. Set goals for yourself and work towards it. Help as many people as you can. You’d be surprised that what you think is so little goes a long way in easing someone’s pain.

In whatever you do, remember that you have made it this far and God is still very much in love with you. He wants you to fulfill your purpose and live your destiny.

Go out there and shine this February.

    Happy New Month!

  • Who Should Resign?

Imagine this scenario. Guy and lady meet while working at the same company (let’s say a bank). They fall in love and decide to get married. However, the company’s policy does not allow for a married couple to work in the same bank. One person has to resign.

They are both aware of this and have agreed the lady would resign to look for another job. But the problem is the lady recently got a promotion just before the wedding where she would be earning more than twice the man’s salary and now she doesn’t want to resign. The man is adamant that she must saying he can’t be jobless. The lady is arguing that she shouldn’t because she has gotten a promotion and may not get this kind of offer elsewhere.

SL Fabz, if you were in this situation, what would you do?

  • Dream, But Don’t Stop There

Everything starts with a dream, but shouldn’t end with a dream. If dreaming is all you do, then you’re in serious trouble.

Today, I came across this quote: “If you don’t build your dream, someone will hire you to help build theirs” by Tony Gaskin and found it to be so true. Many times we leave our dreams as dreams and take no step to achieving them.

Life is a journey full of challenges, if you don’t chase your dreams, you will never get what you want. If you don’t make a move you will always remain in the same place.

The problem is that when you don’t push yourself to achieve more than the standards of living, you never really know how far you could have gone in this life. Also, having a positive attitude is an explicit requirement, because a negative attitude makes us more likely to quit — or to never even begin in the first place.

But when that positive attitude becomes a constant habit of fantasizing, things go south really quick. Yes, that’s right, tirelessly dreaming about success is not constructive.

Too much dreaming turns positive thinking into mere wishful thinking. Dreaming by itself leads to nowhere worthwhile. Its time to make a resolve to turn your dreams into actions and those actions into fulfilled goals.

I wish you the very best as you live your dreams this week!

    xoxo

  • This Simple Message About Love And Life Will Change You Forever

Sometimes, we forget how truly precious this gift of life is and how quickly it can be taken away. The hectic demands of our busy lives overwhelm us, and we forget to show love and kindness to people who truly matter. They could be family, they could be friends, they could even be complete strangers. The fact remains that everyone needs love, always, and we should be willing to give more than to receive.

Today, I watched this inspiring video by Marc Mero, a former WCW, and WWE Champion professional wrestler. He has had an awesomely successful career in the sports and entertainment field. However it is amazing how the  attitudes, and values of a person can change when we lose a loved one. After the sudden death of his mother Marc realized what life is really all about.

He gave this talk to a group of school students and by the time he was through, almost everyone was in tears.

I was deeply touched by these words he said:

Life is not all about winning the race, Life is about finishing the race and about how many people we can help finish this race
How we can start being kinder to each other, how we can stop with the name calling and hurting other people
Because in the end, it may be you that needs help

So, before you say that hurtful word to the next person or ignore that person who truly cares about you, let’s not forget that life could be really short and that it just might be you who needs that person some other time.

Let’s keep that thought in mind as we step into this awesome week.

  • Ladies, Let’s Practice These Tips To Prevent Cervical Cancer

Twenty-six Nigerian women lose their lives due to cervical cancer every day and a further 14,000 women are diagnosed each year with this disease.

    Hi SL Fabz,

The month of January is the Cervical Health Awareness Month, a chance to raise awareness about how women can protect themselves from HPV (Human Papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease. It’s also a major cause of cervical cancer.

Sadly, Cervical Cancer kills thousands of women in Nigeria every month. It is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide. However, half of cervical cancers occur among women rarely or never screened for cancer, and another 10%–20% of cancers occur among women who were screened but did not receive adequate follow-up care. When cervical cancer is found early, it is highly treatable and associated with long survival and good quality of life.

Today, I’d like to share some tips with you about how we can prevent this deadly disease.

    1. Get a regular Pap smear. Getting a regular Pap smear is a highly effective way to reduce your risk of cervical cancer. The Pap smear is a simple test that can detect abnormal cervical changes long before they become cancerous. The key to the effectiveness of the Pap smear is having it done regularly. Always consult with your doctor about how often you should be having Pap smears.

    2. Limit the amount of sexual partners you have. Practicing safe sex is more than just wearing a condom. It also means limiting the amount of sexual partners you have in your lifetime. Having multiple sexual partners increases your risk of being infected with HPV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

    3. Quit smoking or avoid secondhand smoke. Smoking cigarettes has an effect on cervical cancer as well. Once you’re infected with HPV [human papillomavirus], smoking more than doubles your risk of not beating the disease on your own. Smoking won’t give you HPV, but suck down more than 10 cigarettes a day and you can double your risk for advanced precancerous cells once you have the disease. Plus, it can speed up the cancerous growth.

    4. If you are sexually active, use a condom. Having unprotected sex puts you at risk for HIV and other STD’s which can increase your risk factor for developing cervical cancer.

    5. Follow up on abnormal Pap smears. If you have had an abnormal Pap smear, it is important to follow up with regular Pap smears or colposcopies, whatever your doctor has decided for you. If you have been treated for cervical dysplasia, you still need to follow up with Pap smears or colposcopies. Dysplasia can return and when undetected, can turn into cervical cancer.

    6. Get the HPV vaccine. If you are under 26, you may be eligible to receive the HPV vaccine, which prevents high risk strains of HPV in women. The shot is recommended for girls as young as 9 or 10, because it works best before you’ve had any sort of sexual contact. The vaccine doesn’t protect against HPV strains you’ve already contracted, so most doctors won’t administer it to women over 26 because they assume most are already sexually active.

So dearies, let’s practice these measures to protect ourselves. If you are sexually active, get a pap smear done. And guys, please share this info with any lady you know.

    Stay healthy!

    SL.
