2014 International Human Rights Day: Thoughts To Reflect On
Today marks another International Human Rights Day in commemoration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 66 years ago. This day is observed annually on 10 December, to highlight the fundamental rights that all people are entitled to as a global community.
As a country, we’ve come a long way with regards to human rights, although, there is still much more to be done. Some years back, we could not speak against wrong actions by our leaders for fear of being thrown into jail. But it is much different now.
However, we still have many issues to grapple with.
- Around 15 million girls are forced into child marriage around the world every year. One in three girls in the developing world are married by their 18th birthday, increasing their risk of isolation and violence, and limiting their chance to have an education.
- Every 90 seconds, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Most of these deaths are preventable, but due to gender-based discrimination many women are not given the proper education or care they need.
- There are millions of children living in poverty around the world today. According to Unicef, 22,000 children worldwide die each day due to poverty.
- An estimated 27 million people are currently enslaved in the human trafficking trade globally.
Nigeria plays a huge part of these shocking statistics and its time we paid more attention to these issues.
The theme for 2014, “Human Rights 365“, is a reminder that everyone is entitled to basic rights with the same ideals and values – all year round. I’d like to add to this by saying the promotion of Human Rights should be everyone’s responsibility. Show more love and care to that child who is not yours, give someone an education, respect other people’s opinions…
I’d like to end with the words of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who said in a message today: “On Human Rights Day we speak out. We declare that human rights are for all of us, all the time: whoever we are and wherever we are from; no matter our class, our opinions, our sexual orientation.”

Rest In Peace Chaz B…
I just heard the sad news that popular radio personality Chaz B has passed on. This is so so sad!
He inspired so many with his radio programme ‘Sharing Life Issues‘ and I’ve been personally blessed by his advice and lessons.
He has a positive impact on so many lives and his words truly helped heal many relationships and broken homes.
Although the official cause of his death has not been confirmed, he had a history of kidney health problems and underwent a successful kidney transplant in 2012 after receiving a kidney donation from his wife.
I can’t imagine what his wife and children would be going through right now but I pray that God gives them strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
He will be dearly missed. May his soul Rest In Peace

It’s Time For You To Love Yourself
As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering

So Sad… Rest In Peace Myles Munroe, Family & Others
I woke up this morning to the tragic news that Dr Myles Munroe, his wife Ruth Monroe, his daughter Charisa and six others died in a plane crash.
According to Forbes, the plane reportedly struck a crane at the Grand Bahama Ship Yard, exploding on impact and crashing into the ground near a junkyard area at the Bahama International Airport.
It is such a sad ending for a man whose ministry has had a positive impact on thousands of people around the world. He was a renowned gospel leader, transformational leader, business coach and author of many motivational books.
The couple and 7 others (pictured above moments before boarding the plane) were killed after the Lear 36 executive private jet they were traveling in struck a crane at the grand Bahamas ship yard, as it approached for landing, exploding on impact. The group was on their way to the Global Leadership Forum, which was organized by Dr. Munroe and was scheduled for this week in Freeport.
Tragedies like this make me so so sad, makes me ask so many questions that I can’t find answers to. Dr Myles was 60 years old. I don’t know the ages of other passengers on the plane but they were all younger than him. He is a man that had so much more inside of him to impact the world with. In fact, he was on his way to touch more lives when he met his death.
I’ve been personally blessed by some of his teachings and books. I’m definitely gonna miss him, and so will thousands others. I take consolation in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life and did so much good while on earth. I pray for God’s comfort on his only surviving son. I can’t imagine how he must feel right now.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

Don’t Forget To Register To Vote
Hey guys,
I hope your weekend is going great.
Next year, Nigerians will be voting in our leaders who will hold the mantle of leadership across the country for the next four years. From Governors, to Senators… and even the President, these people would occupy positions of power and would be responsible for most of the decisions concerning the growth and welfare of our nation.
Why am I saying all this? Because I want to remind us that we have the powers to choose the people that will occupy these positions with our vote.
The distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has commenced. I’m not sure of the actual schedule as I hear it varies in different states/local government areas. Please find out the schedules in your area and arm yourself with the right to vote. In some parts of Lagos, the exercise will end tomorrow so don’t miss this opportunity. If you are 18 and above, you have the right to vote and decide the course of our nation.

I hope you’ve had an awesome week so far. The weekend is almost here and it will soon be time to relax and unwind so make sure you get some fun stuff to do.
