  • Verses of Encouragement

Hello SL Fabz! I found this on Christianpost.com and thought to share this lovely Sunday…

    ***

Whether it be a hard day at work, family trouble, health issues, heartache, depression, or a relationship that is causing stress in your life; there is always something in the Bible to look up to and lift us up when we are feeling down.

It is in God’s Word that we can find encouraging verses to uplift us and give us hope when we are down. For anyone who is feeling the “weight of the world” on their shoulders, cast your care upon the One up above whose shoulders are big enough to carry the burden for you.

Below are 10 Bible verses that will bring the peace you are searching for:

    1. “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” -Deuteronomy 31:8

    2. “I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” -Psalm 16:8

    3. “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can [mere] man do to me?” -Psalm 56:3-4

    4. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16.33

    5. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7

    6. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” -John 14.27

    7. “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” -Psalm 32:7-8

    8. ‘I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure upon me of concern for all the churches.’ -2 Corinthians 11:27-28

    9. “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.” -Psalm 34:17

    10. “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” -Romans 8:6

  • Should I date him?

Hello SL Fabz! Here is Victoria and she needs your help. Do read and tell us what you think she should do…

    ***

Hello Stephie, I’d like to read the suggestions of SL fabz on this issue:

After graduating five years ago, I only just got a job last year. It was a tedious wait as I come from a family of six children and I am the second child. My income is something the whole family has been waiting for to help in family needs and spending.

The job is a good one and affords me the opportunity to travel to many African countries.

Three months ago, my boss asked me out. He said he’d like to date me, but he is a married man; and when I brought that up he said his marriage is a very unfulfilling one, and he is tired of it.

I told him, “no, I can’t date you.” And ever since then he has made my work very redundant in the office; he gives all the major work to my subordinate and has cancelled all my business trips for the year. Last week he asked my assistant to attend a very important meeting with him, which I was supposed to attend.

Now I just sit in the office and I am largely ignored by him and giving no kind of fulfilling work.

I fear he is warming up to sack me.

Please what should I do? I don’t want to date him, but I don’t want to lose my job.

    Help!

    – Victoria

  • I love this song!

Have you heard Coldplay’s “Sky full of stars”?

    I love that song!

Soothing, comforting and full of hope.

    Let the words move you!***

    “A Sky Full Of Stars”

‘Cause you’re a sky, ’cause you’re a sky full of stars

I’m gonna give you my heart

‘Cause you’re a sky, ’cause you’re a sky full of stars

‘Cause you light up the path…

I don’t care, go on and tear me apart

I don’t care if you do, ooh

‘Cause in a sky, ’cause in a sky full of stars

    I think I saw you…

‘Cause you’re a sky, ’cause you’re a sky full of stars

I wanna die in your arms

‘Cause you get lighter the more it gets dark

I’m gonna give you my heart…

I don’t care, go on and tear me apart

I don’t care if you do, ooh

‘Cause in a sky, ’cause in a sky full of stars

    I think I see you

    I think I see you…

‘Cause you’re a sky, you’re a sky full of stars

    Such a heavenly view

    You’re such a heavenly view

Hi guys! I hope you’re having a fab weekend.

Last weekend was the graduation ceremony of 75 participants of the recently concluded Del-York Creative Academy in Lagos. So sad I missed the awesome event 🙁

I’m so grateful to all my friends from the Industry who made the event – Monalisa Chinda, Segun Arinze and Ufoma Ejenobor-McDermott and lent their support.

These participants went through a remoulding process under the tutelage of great minds from the American film industry. The workshop tagged ‘Film Made In Nigeria’ took place at the Digital Bridge Institute, Lagos where the participants were trained in courses such as editing, graphics design, directing, film making, special effects, production and set design, makeup and screen writing.

During the duration of the workshop, the students shot several short films which are a testament to the world-standard quality of training they received at the Academy. I have seen some of these films and was amazed at how they were able to display such a high level of creativity and professionalism after a four-week course!

The event took place on Friday 15th August 2014 at the Muson Center, Onikan, Lagos. It was one of class, colour and style as it attracted the crème de la crème from various industries who all shared a common passion for growth of Nigeria’s creative sector. Also in attendance was the Consular-General of France to Nigeria, Mr Francois Sastourne, and seasoned Lawyer and Partner at Abraham & Co Solicitors Mena Ajakpovi.

There is no doubt that Nollywood is set for a revolution as these bright minds are ready to take the Industry by storm. Check out some photos from the Award Night & Graduation Ceremony.

  • 75 hearty cheers to DelYork!

Yay! I am so proud of my husband, Linus Idahosa, and the entire DelYork team at the end of another glorious training!

DelYork as 75 graduates have emerge after immense hands-on intensive training from great movie minds around the world!

Under the tutelage of experienced professionals from Hollywood and using only the best equipment in film making, DelYork students were taught courses in editing, graphics design, directing, cinematography, special effects, production and set design, makeup and screen writing. The result of the intensive training was exhibited in the level of creativity and professionalism seen in a number of short films the students produced at the end of the workshop tagged ‘Film Made in Nigeria’.

The training course came to a climax on Friday 15th August 2014 with a well-organised Award Ceremony. The event took place at the Muson Center, Onikan, Lagos and attracted the crème de la crème from various industries who all shared a common passion for growth of Nigeria’s creative sector.

The night saw 75 participants graduate with certificates in their various areas of competences with awards presented to some outstanding students. Eight of the students’ short films were premiered at the Awards Night to a delighted audience who attested to their exceptional quality and impact on the future of Nigeria’s creative industry.

Del-York Creative Academy is an initiative of Del-York International, a media, marketing/broadcast communications and technology Services Company founded by Mr. Linus Idahosa. According to Mr Idahosa, the Academy would continue to help nurture the participants’ dreams until they get a strong footing in their chosen fields.

This year’s program was mainly supported by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Intervention Fund under the aegis of Project ACT. This fund is being managed by the Ministry of Finance headed by the co-ordinating minister of the Economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and His Excellency, Chief Edem Duke, Minister of Tourism. Other sponsors include Ibis Lagos Airport Hotel, the Digital Bridge Institute, Jameson and Heritage Bank.

Collectively, their four-week investment in creative Nigerians has been immensely beneficial to the individual destinies of the participants and indeed, the country’s future.

  • #Ebola: RIP Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh

Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh is gone. We will always remember her for saving millions of Nigerians by restraining Mr. Sawyer from leaving the hospital when he wanted to, knowing that he was dying of Ebola.

This is what a journalist, Cheta Nwanze, had to say:

“The sacrifice that Dr. Adadevoh and Nurse Ejelonu have made is the highest form of sacrifice that any man, or woman, can make for his, or her, fellow human being. It is said that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for your friend. Both women, and their colleague, put their lives on the line for 170 million of their fellow citizens, many of whom do not even understand the concept of what it means to be a citizen. The very least that Nigeria can do in appreciation, is to honour them. I have a suggestion for such an honour, and not some meaningless title or coin which will soon fall out of use. Nigeria should declare August 19 each year a national holiday, and in the names of both women. That way, some Nigerian child in six decades can ask his parent, “Mummy, who is Stella Ameyo Adadevoh?” And the parent can reply, “That woman saved my life, and the lives of all of us”. It is the least we can do. It is the least we should do.”

May her soul and also Nurse Ejelonu’s rest in peace.

  • What will you be doing this weekend?

As we practice safety and caution this period, there are many ways you can occupy yourself indoors without getting bored.

Let’s see what we can come up with:

Buy a magazine and read. When was the last time you read page-to-page a magazine. Try it this weekend and see if you can discover a new hobby

Play games. The culture of games is slowing dying and this is sad. It’s time to revive this sport. Bring out your chess board and scrabble; ludo or snakes-and-ladder and PLAY all weekend. It’s really a fun way to bond with family and friends

Music. Listen to some of the classics that will take you back to days you wish to relive. Get your earphones and get lost in the world that makes you happy.

Cooking. Try something refreshing in the kitchen. Search Google  for a new dish you’d like to try and get your hands busy.

There are many more things you can do this weekend, so share your ideas.

And have a jolly good one!

  • Answer this question…

What will you like to do if money was not a problem?

Think out of the box and let nothing hold you back!

  • Dealing with Depression? #RIP Robin Williams

One of the funniest persons who put a smile on my face as a young girl, Robin Williams, is dead.

It is sad as it is suggested that he killed himself.

Suicide leaves unanswered questions for those alive. Family and friends begin to question everything. I cannot begin to imagine what his family and friends are going through… it must be tough.

The scary thing is, many people are depressed, it’s alarming!

We need to reach out more to people. We need to care more. You might just be saving a life!

If you know anyone going through depression, or you suffer depression, please seek help!

Here are symptoms of depression that can help you understand better:

    Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness

Loss of interest in daily activities

Appetite or weight changes. This can be significant weight loss or weight gain, or eating too much or too little

Sleep changes. You either suffer insomnia, especially waking in the early hours of the morning, or oversleeping (also known as hypersomnia).

Anger or irritability. Feeling agitated, restless, or even violent. Your tolerance level is low, your temper short, and everything and everyone gets on your nerves.

Loss of energy. Feeling fatigued, sluggish, and physically drained. Your whole body may feel heavy, and even small tasks are exhausting or take longer to complete.

Self-loathing. Strong feelings of worthlessness or guilt.

Reckless behaviour. This can be reckless drinking, driving, substance abuse, gambling etc

Concentration problems. Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering things.

Unexplained aches and pains. An increase in physical complaints such as headaches, back pain, aching muscles, and stomach pain.

    #RIP Robin Williams
