No To Under-Age Marriage Law!

When this email/petition was sent to me, I knew I had to endorse and share it.
Since I saw the email I cannot remain mute about the current bill passed, the vote on the constitution amendment bill which caused an uproar in the senate this past Tuesday.
“The contentious provision, Section 29, allows citizens who are of age to renounce Nigerian citizenship if they wish. For that purpose, the constitution says, 18-year-olds and above shall be considered to be “of age”.
In addition, a woman or girl who is married, shall also be considered to be of age- a section that could be interpreted to imply that even a day old child, once married, shall be considered to be of age.
The tricky part is:
“That this section, when referenced in the larger picture will make a pedophile, who marries even an 8 year old (as I have seen in Nigeria) “not liable because his “CHILD Wife” is automatically considered an adult. The likes of him will immediately point you to section 29, subsection 4b that says – “any woman who is married shall be “deemed to be of “full age.””
The child that got married did not chose to do so on her own will, she was forced into marriage and should not be deemed an adult as a result..
Nigerians, it is time to lend your voices, sign the petition and share your thoughts.
We need to protect the girl child from incessant abuse. Take a minute to sign the petition that was started here

10 Workout Secrets
10 Workout Secrets From the Pros culled webmd. By Carol Sorgen
Experts and successful exercisers reveal the top tips and tricks they use to get the most from their fitness routines.Getting and staying fit can be a challenge. For many of us, it’s hard just to get up off the couch. So what’s the secret of people who have managed to make exercise a way of life?
1. Be Consistent
Chase Squires is the first to admit that he’s no fitness expert. But he is a guy who used to weigh 205 pounds, more than was healthy for his 5’4″ frame. “In my vacation pictures in 2002, I looked like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man at the beach,” says the 42-year-old Colorado resident. Squires decided enough was enough, cut out fatty food, and started walking on a treadmill. The pounds came off and soon he was running marathons — not fast, but in the race. He ran his first 50-mile race in October 2003 and completed his first 100-miler a year later. Since then, he’s completed several 100-mile, 50-mile, and 50k races.
His secret? “I’m not fast, but I’m consistent,” says Squires, who says consistency is his best tip for maintaining a successful fitness regimen.
“It all started with 20 minutes on a treadmill,” he says. “The difference between my success and others who have struggled is that I did it every single day. No exercise program in the world works if you don’t do it consistently.”
2. Follow an Effective Exercise Routine
The American Council on Exercise (ACE) recently surveyed 1,000 ACE-certified personal trainers about the best techniques to get fit. Their top three suggestions:
Strength training. Even 20 minutes a day twice a week will help tone the entire body.
Interval training. “In its most basic form, interval training might involve walking for two minutes, running for two, and alternating this pattern throughout the duration of a workout,” says Cedric Bryant, PhD, FACSM, chief science officer for ACE. “It is an extremely time-efficient and productive way to exercise.”
Increased cardio/aerobic exercise. Bryant suggests accumulating 60 minutes or more a day of low- to moderate-intensity physical activity, such as walking, running, or dancing.3. Set Realistic Goals
“Don’t strive for perfection or an improbable goal that can’t be met,” says Kara Thompson, spokesperson for the International Health Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). “Focus instead on increasing healthy behaviors.”
In other words, don’t worry if you can’t run a 5K just yet. Make it a habit to walk 15 minutes a day, and add time, distance, and intensity from there.
4. Use the Buddy System
Find a friend or relative whom you like and trust who also wants to establish a healthier lifestyle, suggests Thompson. “Encourage one another. Exercise together. Use this as an opportunity to enjoy one another’s company and to strengthen the relationship.”
5. Make Your Plan Fit Your Life
Too busy to get to the gym? Tennis star Martina Navratilova, health and fitness ambassador for the AARP, knows a thing or two about being busy and staying fit.
Make your plan fit your life, she advises in an article on the AARP web site. “You don’t need fancy exercise gear and gyms to get fit.”
If you’ve got floor space, try simple floor exercises to target areas such as the hips and buttocks, legs and thighs, and chest and arms (like push-ups, squats, and lunges). Aim for 10-12 repetitions of each exercise, adding more reps and intensity as you build strength.
6. Be Happy
Be sure to pick an activity you actually enjoy doing, suggests Los Angeles celebrity trainer Sebastien Lagree.
“If you hate weights, don’t go to the gym. You can lose weight and get in shape with any type of training or activity,” he says.
And choose something that is convenient. Rock climbing may be a great workout, but if you live in a city, it’s not something you’ll be doing every day.
7. Watch the Clock
Your body clock, that is. Try to work out at the time you have the most energy, suggests Jason Theodosakis, MD, exercise physiologist at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. If you’re a morning person, schedule your fitness activities early in the day; if you perk up as the day goes along, plan your activities in the afternoon or evening.
“Working out while you have the most energy will yield the best results,” Theodosakis says.
8. Call In the Pros
Especially if you’re first getting started, Theodosakis suggests having a professional assessment to determine what types of exercise you need most.
“For some people, attention to flexibility or to balance and agility, may be more important than resistance training or aerobics,” he says. “By getting a professional assessment, you can determine your weakest links and focus on them. This will improve your overall fitness balance.”
9. Get Inspired
“Fitness is a state of mind,” says fitness professional and life coach Allan Fine of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. One of Fine’s tricks to get and stay motivated is to read blogs or web sites that show him how others have been successful. “Who inspires you?” he asks.
10. Be Patient
Finally, remember that even if you follow all these tips, there will be ups and downs, setbacks and victories, advises Navratilova. Just be patient, and don’t give up.
“Hang in there, and you’ll see solid results.”
Now get moving SL Fabz 🙂

Let Freedom Reign..

I am loving Chrisette Michele Payne’s music. Chrisette Michele (born December 8, 1982) is an American Grammy Award-winning R&B and soul singer-songwriter. In a very short span of time, Michele shot from small-time performer up to one of Def Jam’s most promising talents; with hit singles like “Be OK and “If I have my way”. Chrisette is amazing, her voice soothes you and you just feel like she is talking to you. I especially love her song “Let Freedom Reign”. And we got something in common, one of her albums has the same name as one of my projects, guess! 🙂 Fact is I am loving Chrisette’s music, check it out! and Happy Independence Day to all my American SL Fabz.
Be Safe!

Women Shaming Other Women
The tendency to shame other women for a variety of things seems to be the current trend. Have you noticed that? I’m sensitive to it, as I’m sure many of you are, not because I’ve been on the receiving end of it (although I have, and I’m sure all of you can relate) but because I look at the women in my life and recognize how beautiful they are, and how angry I get when someone hurts them. This might sound squishy, but it’s only recently that I’ve reconnected with the absolute joy of female friendship, which in turn makes me appreciate being a woman even more. So when I see women shaming other women, judging them and insulting them and putting them down, it makes me sad. Here are some of the most common ways women shame other women – and why we should stop.1. The Scourge of Slut-Shaming
Slut-shaming is incredibly – and regrettably – prevalent. It takes many forms, making it one of the biggest ways women shame other women. In fact, girls are shaming other girls. This type of shaming knows no age limits. I think we’ve probably all called someone slutty, whether it’s a random girl in a short skirt or the woman at work who talks about the guys she dates. The thing is, what business is it of mine or yours or anyone’s to pass judgment? Does it make us feel better to berate another woman because she has one night stands? Or would it be better to maybe ask why, to consider if there’s a deeper reason? Even if there’s not, even if a woman is just a sensual, sexual being who enjoys sex, is it our place to call her a slut?
2. The Bitchy Beat down
Since I’ve been known to call out bitchy behavior myself, I’m going to be totally upfront here: in some cases I subscribe to the Mo’Nique philosophy, meaning that if, at some point, I am acting like a bitch, knowingly and with bitchiness aforethought, then that’s what the eff I need to be called. I’m okay with that, although your mileage may vary. In my experience, however, bitch-shaming for no real reason occurs when a woman is powerful, strong, confident, sexy, beautiful, smart, and successful. Sometimes, when a woman is perceived as a threat in any way, she’s branded a bitch out of turn.
3. Body Image Bashing
Fat-bashing, skinny-bashing, boob-bashing, butt-bashing … I hate seeing women shame each other for their body types. Fat-shaming is more mainstream, in that people seem to talk about it more and to consider it perfectly okay, but body image bashing knows no weight or shape. The thing is, true beauty doesn’t have a weight or a shape either. The need to put someone down based on the numbers on a scale, the cups on her bra, or the size of her ass is superficial and unnecessary. Since I do adore quoting Mean Girls, let me ask you this: does calling another woman fat make you feel thinner? Does putting down a skinny woman make you lose weight?
4. Success Equals Sex
Going back to the bitch quotient, it’s also becoming something of a trend to shame women for their success. You’ve heard it before, I bet. A woman gets a promotion, a raise, a bonus, and suddenly the whole office is whispering about how she must have slept with the boss. It even happens in high schools and colleges. A girl gets an excellent grade, and people start gossiping about what kind of “extra credit” she’s getting from the professor. Since when did success become something to demean?
5. You Are What You Wear
One of the worst ways women shame other women is by judging them based on their clothes. Their clothing choices can, in fact, lead to slut-shaming, body image shaming, or sexuality shaming. If you wear clothing from thrift stores, you’re poor; if you wear designer clothes, you’re a snob; short skirts make you slutty. The judgments don’t stop but clothes don’t mean anything. They don’t define a person.
6. A Minor Difference of Opinion
Sometimes women are shamed simply because they like something out of the ordinary, or don’t like a popular trend. Women will shame other women who don’t agree with them, simply because they’re sure they’re right. It might come down to something as innocuous as a book, a band, or a movie. What you like could make you slutty, stupid, too mainstream, a hipster, a Goth, a bitch. When does it stop?
If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of any of the shaming tactics mentioned here, or tactics I didn’t mention, you know how much it hurts and how much trouble it can cause. Bullying is such a widespread issue, and this is an extension of it. I think it’s important to support other women whenever possible, not compete with them or judge them. Because what’s the point, really? How does it help you? Let me know if you’ve ever been shamed by other women, talk about how it made you feel, and remember all the while that you are beautiful. culled allwomenstalk

Summer Getaway Ideas
I am all about the summer right now. It’s time to have fun and catch the cool breeze and enjoy the hot sun God gave us :-). One does not have to travel out of the country to enjoy luxury or to have a peaceful and fun summer but in reality, we have lots and lots of exotic places in our beloved Naija to chill with your partner, leisure or business. Here are a few to choose from:LA CAMPAGNE TROPICANA: You wouldn’t believe this beauty is situated just a few minutes drive outside Lagos in a place called Epe.It’s a beautiful beach resort, with fun amenities, good food and games. My favourite part? It is a very serene environment. Everything is so natural and cool. What’s more fun is that you don’t have to break a bank to spend a fabulous and memorable weekend at this resort with your loved one.
OBUDU MOUNTAIN RESORT: Apart from the seven hour drive from Calabar to Obudu itself, which can be a bit tiring (totally worth it by the way), Obudu mountain resort is one of the biggest pride of Nigerian tourism. There are personal cabins to choose from, clean and big swimming pools, drop dead gorgeous views (I mean they will take your breath away), amusement parks for the kids, everybody in the family is entertained. For those naughty couples that want to fulfill their fantasies…. here you go-> right in front of the waterfall, this is the place for you. (if they catch you, no be me talk am o!)BADAGRY BEACH: For my workaholic fans that don’t have the time to relax this summer, a trip to the beach on a cool Sunday shouldn’t put a dent on your schedule. (I don’t mean those noisy beaches where there are about 1,001 bars o!! ); a road trip to Badagry beach shouldn’t put much dent on your purse either.
I wish I could show you all, but it seems endless, all these are some of the perfect spots for a girls vaca~getaway or a place for the whole fam…. or better-still propose to your wife all over again. It’s summer time, so rock on!xoxoSL.
