  • A Special Recognition for DRY at the Los Angeles City Council ahead of Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) Screening

    Hello Lovelies,

I got a Special Recognition for DRY at the Los Angeles City Council ahead of Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) Screening!

It’s 2019 and DRY is still making great impact around the world. The movie has been selected to screen for the second time at the highly coveted Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, USA this February, and as a prelude to the festival, I was recognized at the first ever Blacks In Cinema presentation. The event took place at the Los Angeles City Council Chambers on February 5th.

Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson kicked off the Black History Month by honoring the actors and filmmakers who paved the way for people all walks of life to be represented in film. With the help of some legendary African-American actors and filmmakers, the day was officially proclaimed #BlacksInCinema in Los Angeles.

In 2016, Dry won Best Narrative Feature at the PAFF. It screens again on Feb 9th, Feb 13th and Feb 18 with an interactive session after the opening night. The movie has made immense positive impact across the world in changing the narrative concerning child marriage and other forms of social injustice. It was recalled to the festival this year due to its world-class production quality and continuous importance in global human rights advocacy.

Here is a short video clip of my address at the Los Angeles City Council:

  • The Truth About The Sassy & Confident Woman

When she says she can be anything she wants to be, that’s not a lie. She is not saying that because she is proud and puffed up. She is not saying that to make others think that they are less than her. She is not saying that to make others feel intimidated.

She is saying that because it’s the honest truth.

She is the kind of woman who wakes up every morning feeling excited about her day and all that she can achieve. She is not where she wants to be yet, but she is working hard day and night to get there. Whenever she experiences a stumbling block or a rejection, she goes back to the drawing board and maps out a new direction to achieving her dreams. She never lets negative comments get the best of her. She is happy about other people’s successes and celebrates with them. She understands that everyone has their time and season and is not let down when things don’t seem to be working out for her.

She is passionate, she is creative, she is full of zeal. She believes in love and relationships and builds many lasting ones. She is good at making conversations with different classes of people and this makes her warm and enedearing. She is kind to all; old and young, rich and poor. She believes in people and what is inside of them and helps others realise their potential. She is the kind of woman you want to be around.

She is a good team leader and a great team member as well. It doesn’t matter who is giving directions, she is happy to follow them as long as they are good. She is opinionated but she is a great listener, she is tough when she needs to be but gentle at the same time.

She dreams big, really really big. She is able to get people to believe in her dreams because the ultimate goal with all of her aspirations is to touch people’s lives in a positive way.  She has a good relationship with people in powerful positions, but has the humility of your girl next door. She is sassy, she is confident and she is you!

  • Stephanie’s Tips: 10 Secrets For Great Skin

Everyone wants glowing, flawless skin. But for many of us, it’s hard to get there, especially when you have , dryness, oily skin, and more. Today, I’m going to let you into 10 of my best secrets to healthy skin. Here they are:

    1. Exfoliate your skin regularly: Without help from scrubs, peels, or even a clean washcloth, dead skin cells can build up on your face and body, clogging pores, preventing products from penetrating, and making your complexion look dull.

    2. Take off your makeup every night: Never, ever go to bed with makeup on. No matter how exhausted you are or how late it is, don’t forget to take it off.

    3. Check your sleep routine: It’s not just about getting eight hours of sleep a night, your skin will also benefit from regularly using clean silk pillowcases. The material glides easily and prevents creasing and wrinkles.

    4. Moisturize: Most creams and lotions have key ingredients that create a protective barrier on the surface of the skin to lock in moisture. Do this immediately after you get out of the shower. Because skin cools itself by evaporating water, you only have a few minutes before that hydration is gone.

    5. Eat healthy and drink lots of water: Keep a note of what you put on your plate. Eat fresh fruits, greens, sufficient protein and vitamins. A diet rich in vitamin C and low in fats and sugar promotes radiant skin. Consider a low-sugar diet, which can keep insulin levels down, allowing cells to maintain a healthy balance. Also, drink lots of water to naturally hydrate your skin.

    6. Clean your makeup brushes: If you can’t remember the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes, that needs to change: As you use them, they quickly build up dirt, grime, and oil that can lead to breakouts.

    7. Stop touching your face all the time: Leave that pimple/blackhead/bump alone. By constantly touching your face, you are unleashing germs and bacteria into your pores. Once you quit the habit, you might notice your face starts to clear up.

    8. Exercise regularly: Regular exercising has a positive effect on your skin as well as your mood and body. Boosting blood flow also ensures that your skin is getting the oxygen and the nutrients that it needs to be healthy.

    9. Avoid fatty foods: Research shows that a diet high in fats and carbohydrates causes more wrinkles. To keep your cells revved up and rejuvenated, stick to lean protein like fish, white meat poultry and beans.

    10. Invest in Quality Skincare Products: I’ve tried several skincare products in the past but none gave me the desired results until I discovered the anti-aging skincare called Rodan + Fields. Their range of skincare products bring out that radiant inner sparkle and keeps your skin healthy and glowing always. Trust me, this is life-changing skincare. • 5 Signs You Should Go On A Second Date

The first date is always a significant measure of whether an attraction would lead to a relationship or not. It might be awkward at first, but as two people settle into the date and begin chatting, you begin to notice things about the other person that determines whether you want to go on a second date with him or her again.

Here are 5 signs to make you know whether a first date would lead to a second one:

    1. When they go the whole date with our touching their phone: In this age of smartphones and social media, you find that most people would rather spend time on their phones while on a date than the person in front of them. If you find that your date is very distracted and prefers phone chatting to actually talking with you, this might be a good sign that the person is not really interested in you.
    2. He/she shows signs of respect: Did the person show up 30minutes late? Did he open the doors for you like a gentleman? Did he/she treat the waiter respectfully? The way and manner your date does some of these are signs of the kind of treatment you are going to receive if you do decide to progress into a relationship. Watch out for these signs.
    3. How engaging is the conversation?: You don’t really have to talk about your deepest secrets on a first date, but there has to be a good flow to the conversation. When you talk about yourself, is your date asking questions and engaging you? Or is he/she just smiling and nodding? If you have a good flow and the person has a genuine interest in you, there’s a good chance it might lead to a second date.
    4. You actually enjoy yourself: One of the first signs that you should go on a second date is that you really enjoy the first one. Don’t focus on whether your friend thinks the other person is good for you instead, pay attention to how you feel when you’re with them. If you enjoy yourself, it’s a good sign that you’ll enjoy the second date, as well.
    5. You have a lot in common: Every successful couple will have at least one or two things in common. To determine whether you should take on a second date, talk about your interests and find out if they align. Your date may not have EVERYTHING in common with you, but should at least have enough for you both to have a good balance in the relationship.
