  • World Toilet Day: 4 Toilet Habits You Should Avoid

You probably do not know it, but you might have habits that may have negative effects on your sensitive areas. Proper toilet practices do not only involve cleaning yourself after you have bowel movement. There are other practices that need to be avoided such as:

    1. Using your mobile phone in the toilet
Since a 2011 British study found that one in six mobile phones is contaminated with fecal matter, you should think twice about how taking your phone with you to the toilet. Water can also be aerosolized during flushing, and that mist can have fecal bacteria in it. And while the particles won’t stay in the air too long, they could land on anything near the toilet.

    2. Flushing with the lid up
If you don’t want to splash bacteria all over your bathroom, flush with the lid down. Pushing the handle can send particles splashing and floating as far as 6 feet away, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.

    3. Keeping your toothbrush close to the toilet bowl
Keeping it within 4 feet of the toilet increases your chance of contaminating it with fecal matter from the air. Store your toothbrush as far from the bowl as possible.

    4. Pants on the floor
Be careful where you keep your pants when you pull them down to use the toilet. If your pants fall all the way to your ankles, there’s a pretty high likelihood they will get covered with bacteria.

  • How To Know If A Guy Is Just Not Into You

    Hi Sl Fabz,

So this post was inspired by the quote below. I couldn’t help laughing hard when I read it. I have been in that situation and I know a lot of ladies here can attest to this too. It seems like you’re the only one in the relationship or the only one trying to make it work while the other person acts like he just doesn’t care.

These are a few thing to watch out for to know if a guy is really into you:

    No Texting/Calling
If he returns your calls and text messages days after you reach out and ignores the fact that he’s been distant, something’s up. A person interested in you wants to build the relationship and communication is a major part of that.

    Daylight Outings
Does he take you out in the day time? Have you two even seen the light of day together? Gone out in public? Are your outings always at night? If all you two do is chill at the crib, you may have already lost. Tell him you want to spend the day with him outdoors and see his reaction.

    Cancelled Plans
He plans a date with you days before and cancels just hours before it starts. A guy who likes you won’t cancel and if he does, he’ll immediately make it up to you because he doesn’t want you to leave.

    No Personal Interest
If a guy shows no interest or excitement over finding out who you are, it’s not a good sign. When we like someone, we can’t get enough. We want to know every story, every detail. If a guy shows no interest in your life, your hobbies, what you enjoy, etc., he’s really just not all that interested in you.

    Serial Flirt

A guy who flirts with everybody isn’t shy, he’s going to go after what he wants. So if you’re hoping that he’s interested in you because he’s flirting with you, but he’s not making a move and he flirts with lots of other people, it’s a sign he’s not into you.

Have you been in this situation before? How do you know if a guy/lady is just not into you? Please share!

  • 5 Surprising Ways To Lose Weight Without Exercising

The greatest weight-loss strategies are the ones you can fit your body and life. So go ahead and take your pick!

    1. Drink a lot of water
Many people often mistake thirst for hunger. Aim to drink at least eight 8 glasses of water per day. Regularly drinking water allows your body to filter out toxins as well as can help you feel full. And, drinking water has the added benefit of clearer skin.

    2. Downsize
Serving your meals on a smaller plate will give you the illusion that you are eating more food. Dining with smaller plates, cups, bowls, and spoons will force you to savor your meal, and give your body the time it needs to register that you’re full.

    3. Get enough sleep
Did you ever notice that when you’re sleepy, you tend to eat more? Your observation is backed by science: Studies have shown that tired people put more food in their mouths. So get enough sleep to avoid packing on the weight.

    4. Journal Your Food
Keep a log of everything you eat including the amount, calories and time. Journaling forces you to be honest with yourself about how much you’re eating. This process will also enable you to recognize unhealthy patterns in your eating habits that you can cut out.

    5. Eat a good breakfast
Eat a heavy-on-protein breakfast every day, and you’ll control your hunger long into the day. For breakfast consider eggs, yogurt, or peanut butter. And, don’t let more than three hours pass between eating. Be sure to have small snacks available to eat between meals.

  • What is your favourite book by Chinua Achebe?

Today, I opened my browser and was pleasantly surprised to find that the Google was celebrating the legacy of the renowned Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. Today would have been his 87th Birthday and Google honoured the late literary icon with a Google Doodle.

One of my favourite books by this late author is Things Fall Apart. This was his first and most popular novel which sold more than 20 million copies and has been translated into 57 different languages. Other great works of his include: “No Longer at Ease”, “Arrow of God”, “A Man of the People”, and “Anthills of the Savannah”. He also wrote several short stories and essays

Chinua Achebe died in 2013 at the age of 82, but his legendary work and classic novels sure keep him alive, and we’re glad the world still remembers him!

  • World Diabetes Day: 7 Ways To Lower Blood Sugar Level

Today is World Diabetes Day, a primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus and is held on November 14 each year.

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar either because of the inability of the body to produce enough insulin or the inability to respond to the insulin so produced.

The theme of World Diabetes Day 2017 is ‘Women and diabetes – our right to a healthy future’.

As we mark this day world wide, let’s take a look at 7 crucial ways to control your blood sugar level:

    1. Exercise regularly. Regular exercise can help you lose weight and increase insulin sensitivity. Increased insulin sensitivity means your cells are better able to use the available sugar in your bloodstream. Exercise also helps your muscles use blood sugar for energy and muscle contraction.

    2. Eating at right time, an appropriate amount of a balance carbohydrates, fats and proteins with fruits is essential. Not going on an empty stomach for long hours and not missing the meals are important.

Read more: Some of the best protein bars that are recommended for diabetics.

    3. If you’re overweight, it will be easier to stabilize blood sugar more effectively if you lose some weight. For most people with diabetes, losing just a few kilograms can make a difference in diabetes control or the need for medication.

    4. Increase your fiber intake. Fiber slows carb digestion and sugar absorption. For these reasons, it promotes a more gradual rise in blood sugar levels. Eating plenty of fiber can help with blood sugar control, and soluble dietary fiber is the most effective.

    5. Too little sleep or poor sleep can disrupt your hormones, leading to increased appetite, higher blood sugar, and a thicker waistline. Find a sleep routine that works for you.

    6. Drinking enough water may help you keep your blood sugar levels within healthy limits. In addition to preventing dehydration, it helps your kidneys flush out the excess blood sugar through urine. Staying hydrated can reduce blood sugar levels and help prevent diabetes. Water is best.

    7. Do not skip or delay meals. Breakfast is extremely important for you to control weight and other factors of health. We have all heard that breakfast is the day’s most important meal. Indeed, this is especially true for those who have diabetes.

  • World Kindness Day: What Kind Act Has Someone Done For You Recently?

Today, November 13, is World Kindness Day. World Kindness Day is an international observance introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations kindness NGOs.

As we celebrate this day around the world, why don’t you take a moment to remember a kind act someone has done for you. Nothing is too small.

I can never forget this beautiful young girl I met in Kebbi State early this year. She was a recipient of the free VVF Repair Surgery carried out by the Extended Hands Foundation and sponsored by NNPC/SNEPCo. Myself and my team went to hospital to see the recipients after their successful surgeries and when she saw me, she presented me with this lovely set of bangles and a neck piece which she made herself. It was so beautiful and I was deeply touched by her kindness. She didn’t have to give me anything but she did in addition to expressing her gratitude. She’s such a sweet girl who had been through a traumatic experience, yet she was so kind and generous. I’ll never forget her.

Have you been touched by someone’s kindness? Have you been kind to someone recently? What was the kind act you received or gave? Let’s share.

I can’t wait to read your stories!

  • Dear Heartbroken Lady,

I just want to start off by saying you are going to be OK. I know this might sound crazy, but this is the best thing that has ever happened to you. It may not seem like it, but I promise it is.

Perhaps, now all you know is that you are in pain and hurt, and feel all alone, and knowing that tomorrow you will feel the same way. Trust me, I know the feeling.

You feel weak, but you’re not. You are so incredibly strong.

Do not think of heartbreak as misery, but as a blessing. Be thankful that you found out soon enough and that you can start over again. I know it hurts, it will hurt, and you will feel like your world is crumbling down around you and your heart is in physical pain but you will get over that. Losing someone who didn’t appreciate you is a gain, not a loss.

Not everyone will love you for who you are, but who you are will always be enough, better than enough for the right person. People come into our lives to learn from us or to teach us and not everyone is meant to stay. There are so many reasons for this, and none of them have anything to do with you not being enough.

Your life will turn around and you will be much happier than you ever were.

Stop spending so much of your time in the space of questioning where your relationship went wrong. He simply wasn’t the right person for you and that is great!

You are beautiful. So your goal should be to want to be with someone the way that God see’s you.

So chin up home girl. I promise you will make it through and you will wonder why it took you so long to get to this place.

You are going to be OK

    SL 💙💛
