  • Ladies, do you know these 3 beauty hacks?

     Hi Ladies,

Let’s discuss beauty today, shall we?

Not every lady is a pro when it comes to makeup application, that’s why it’s good to know a few tips and tricks to achieving a great look always. Here are 3 beauty hacks which always work for me:

    #1
Apply foundation at the center of your face and blend out. If you apply a lot of foundation around your jawline or hairline, you’ll look like you’re wearing a mask. If you start at the center, the product will fade out around the edges for a more natural look.

    #2
Use a business card or note card to get the best mascara line. Hold the card so it’s hugging your eyelid, and then apply your mascara like you normally would. As you sweep the mascara wand against your lashes and back of the card, watch as the residue coats the back of the card rather than your skin.

    #3
Keep makeup remover next to your bed so you have zero excuses not to take off your makeup before you go to sleep. Sleeping with your makeup on can cause breakouts and infections. So on nights when you’re exhausted and can’t imagine standing at the sink for longer than 30 seconds, you’ll be thankful to have this stuff stashed next to your bed.

I’d love to read yours. What beauty tricks do you use to achieve a great look always?

  • Foodie’s Corner: Healthy Kitchen Tips You Should Know

Healthy eating takes the right environment to cook food in. With these tips you can use your kitchen the healthy way and make it the ideal place to make tasty and healthy dishes.

    1. Wash hands thoroughly before preparing food. Lather with soap and water for 20 seconds. Rinse well and dry with a clean towel.

    2. Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables to remove dirt and germs, and reduce pesticide residues.

    3. A neat and orderly fridge, where you can find everything easily and see exactly what you have, sets you up to cook healthy options. Put healthy ingredients front and center and at eye level so you are more likely to choose those foods to prepare.

    4. Our bodies are around 60 per cent water, so it makes sense to drink the freshest, purest water you can find. Invest in a good water filter that removes fluoride, chlorine and heavy metals from tap water but leaves the good minerals in.

    5. When cleaning surfaces, wash first with soap and water then sanitize with a mild solution of chlorine bleach and water (two drops per cup).

    6. Prevent cross-contamination when preparing food. Use one colored cutting board for raw meats and a different colored cutting board for vegetables or any ready-to-eat foods.

    7. Keep tomatoes out of the fridge. Same with peaches, potatoes, onions, bread, garlic, and coffee. Cold temperatures compromise the flavor and texture of these staples.

    8. Don’t cook everything on high. Almost everything you ever cook will cook more evenly and thoroughly on low or medium. You only need high to sear or brown, or if you’re trying to bring something to a boil.

    9. Chop salad ingredients roughly, chopping them thinly causes loss of vitamin C. Use your hands for greens instead of chopping them with knife. Don’t wait your salad for long, eat it once you prepare.

    10. Prepare your own fruit juice from fruit of the season instead of buying it packaged. And don’t prepare it long before you drink, which causes vitamin loss.

  • 5 Accessories That Will Make Your Outfit Pop

‘A woman makes an outfit her own with accessories.’ – Oscar De La Renta couldn’t have put it better!

Ladies, whether you’re rocking a simple dress or one that’s setting major style goals, your accessories is what can really set it apart. Accessorizing an outfit can make or break an outfit, so here are some tips to give you an idea of where to start. 🙂

Tip #1: Add a POP with your purse!
Big bags, small bags, purses, clutches or satchels with fun colors or prints are the easiest way to brighten up an outfit. You can add a cute multi-print bag to a single coloured outfit and elevate the look entirely. Or, if you love keeping it simple and classy, a gold or silver clutch like this one I styled recently will do the trick!

    Tip #2: All jeweled up!
Jewelry… where do I even start?! The possibilities are truly endless. Whether you want to go minimal or wear a bold statement piece, there are several ways to jazz up your look with the right piece of jewelry. I love styling a simple outfit with bold earrings. I also love having those blings on my hand with rings and bangles.

    Tip #3: Buckle it out!
If you want to draw some attention to your waist, belts are the way to go. Not only will it make your waist look tiny, but adds a high fashion twist to anything you wear. Belts are a great way to put together a clean element to any outfit and they clinch your waist perfectly in a long flowing dress.

Tip #4: Put a ring on it!
This time-honoured piece of jewellery has the potential to amp up your outfit instantly. While different rings work with different outfits, there are some that you can wear with almost anything! Go for something that is of good quality so that it doesn’t start rusting after the first wear.

Tip #5: Don’t forget your hair!
Topping off an outfit with a great hairstyle is always a good idea. And if you don’t feel too confident with your hair, you can rock a suitable turban or hat.  Sometimes adding a cap is that finishing touch your outfit needs.

Bonus tip –  Finger and Toe nail polish could be a huge change in one’s look. I know from personal experience, having your nails and toes with the right polish would make a big difference in your outfit.

So ladies, add some lovely accessories to that outfit today and step out looking glam!

  • Here’s One Simple Trick To Getting Yourself Motivated

Everyone gets unmotivated at times. Trust me, it happens to all of us. In fact, sometimes we get into such a slump that even thinking about making positive changes seems too difficult.

You make goals… but then you procrastinate.

You write a to-do list… but then you don’t follow through.

And this happens again and again and again. Seriously, what’s the problem?

Why are we so good at thinking of what to do but so terrible at actually doing those things?

We all face obstacles. How you deal with those obstacles defines who you are and determines how successful you are in life. Here’s one simple trick I’ve found that always works to motivate me when I feel down:

    Set SMALL AND SPECIFIC GOALS.

Motivation requires a target. It’s hard to get motivated when your goals are vague, undefined, and as a result, impossible to achieve. You will be more motivated if you define your goals and break them down into smaller goals that you can take bites out of accomplishing on a regular basis. Make sure your smaller goals are still meaningful to you and be sure to break them down into things you can actually accomplish otherwise your motivation will tank.

If you complete the task and still itching for more? You can always raise the bar if you’re feeling particularly motivated. Take note that if you feel highly overwhelmed while tackling your goal, chances are it’s too high and you need to lower it to something more realistic or specific.

When you have finished that small task you’ll feel more alert and ready to go do the next thing. You just to get started to get motivated.

You cannot maintain energy and focus if you are trying to do two or more goals at once. It’s not possible — I’ve tried it many times. You have to choose one goal, for now, and focus on it completely. I know, that’s hard. Still, I speak from experience. You can always do your other goals when you’ve accomplished your One Goal.

So if you really don’t feel like doing anything, start with something small and work your way up.

  • Vitamin C Overload – Citrus Day

You already know that citrus (think: oranges, lemons, tangerines, limes, and grapefruit) is an excellent source of immune-boosting vitamin C. But citrus offers many other impressive health benefits, as well.

Generally, citrus fruits have the highest antioxidant activity of all fruits, helping to boost the immune system and protect against cancer and heart disease. All citrus fruits contain fiber, which helps you feel full longer. That’s also why it’s better to eat the fruit itself (an orange, for example) rather than just drink fruit juice.

Here are some things you probably didn’t know about citrus fruits and more reasons to take them daily:

    • Citrus fruits are an excellent source of vitamin C, a nutrient that strengthens the immune system and keeps your skin smooth and elastic.
    • Oranges have the highest amount of vitamin C among citrus fruits. A medium whole orange contains around 70 milligrams of vitamin C. Orange juice is a concentrated source of vitamin C because it removes the rind and most of the pulp, which are not as high in the vitamin.
    • Oranges may reduce the damaging effects of cholesterol and heart disease by protecting the inside of artery walls.
    • Research shows that citrus fruits help reduce the duration and severity of colds.
    • Citrus fruits are a good source of fiber. Just one cup of orange segments contains four grams of fiber. Fiber has several health benefits, including improving digestive health and aiding weight loss. Oranges are particularly high in soluble fiber, the kind of fiber that helps lower cholesterol levels.

Now you have more reasons to add citrus fruits to your shopping list. Stay healthy today and get your vitamins from these juicy fruits!

  • What Do You Feed Your Mind?

    Hey SL Fabz!

    I trust you’re having a beautiful weekend.

I recently had a conversation with someone about the importance of feeding your mind with positive things which I want to share with you today.

Do you know that anything you expose your senses to, begins to program your mind thereby creating your reality? You can fill your mind with negative or positive things. The choice is yours.

What comes out of your mouth is determined by what goes into your mind. You are the books you read, the movies you watch, the music you listen to, the people you spend time with, the conversations you engage in. Choose wisely what you feed your mind.

Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love. The more you feed your mind the healthy thoughts it needs, the stronger you become.

Don’t let people and situations weigh you down. Take charge of what goes in to your mind today. What you tell yourself will either lift you up or tear you down. Choose the positive side!

I hope these words encourage you and I wish you the very best of the weekend!!!

  • TALK TO STEPH: WHOM SHOULD I LISTEN TO – MY DAD OR MY HUSBAND?

I am 28 years old, married with a six year old child (we had him before we got married three years ago). I’m trying to get ahead in my career. I got an offer that would demand a lot of work and attention to career growth.

Here is my dilemma. There are two men I don’t joke with in my life – my father and my husband.

My father is the best dad in the world. This man suffered to ensure that me and my siblings got the best out of life.

My husband is the love of my life.

But these two men don’t see eye-to-eye on any issues regarding me. My father wants me to get ahead in life and do almost everything I dream of, but my husband wants me to slow down and be more domestic.

My dad was excited when I told him about the job. He said I should go for it. But my husband isn’t pleased. He wants me to take a break from all the high-flying career goals.

Now they are both not talking to each other. My father says he will be disappointed if I don’t take the job, and my husband says it will hurt his feelings if I take the job.

On my part, I like the job, but I am not as crazy about it as my dad, and I am also not a slow-paced person as my husband wants me to be.

In this case, whom do I listen to? – Victoria

  • Talk To Steph: I Find It Difficult to Get Married As A Single Mother

    Hello Steph,

I am a single mother. I had my daughter while I was still in school. I am through with school now, I am working at the moment, and I will like to get married.  But I have issues with the men who show interest in me. Whenever I tell them that I have a child from a previous relationship, they usually withdraw their love. They just want to date, but I want more. The guy I am presently dating does not call me often anymore. He is investing less than 20% of his love and time in the relationship. I am tired. I’ll be 29 this December.

How can I position myself as a single mother to find marriage and love? Please post this for your mature fans to help me. – Jacinta

  • TALK TO STEPH: I Don’t Want To Attend Higher Institution But My Mother Is Against my Decision

I am a young lady who aspires to start a business venture. I desire to sell clothes and other fashion accessories but my mother insists I must go to school. She said it is the right thing to do. I am not academically sound. I did poorly while in secondary school and I don’t want to keep on wasting my time and my parent’s money because they don’t have very much and I don’t want to  disappoint them. But my mum is insisting I must continue my education. She says I should try and read law, that she has always wanted a child that will be a lawyer. I seriously don’t have a passion for school. I know I can sell stuff and make money. And no, I cannot do school and trade at the same time. I want to focus. Now she is saying that the reason I haven’t married is because the men that are coming are looking for graduates. I don’t know what to do. Please advise me. – Ebere

  • It’s International day of the girl child!

Yay! It’a #DayOfTheGirlChild. Every October 11, the world celebrates the girl child. 2017 theme is: “EmPOWER girls: Before, during and after conflict”

I totally love how unwomenorg outs it:

There are 1.1 billion girls in the world, and every one of them deserves equal opportunities for a better future. They are a source of energy, power and creativity. They can drive change and help build a better future for all. Yet, most girls face disadvantage and discrimination on a daily basis, and those living through crises are suffering even more.

This year, International Day of the Girl (11 October) will focus on the theme, “EmPOWER girls: Before, during and after conflict”.

Every 10 minutes, somewhere in the world, an adolescent girl dies as a result of violence. In humanitarian emergencies, gender-based violence often increases, subjecting girls to sexual and physical violence, child marriage, exploitation and trafficking. Adolescent girls in conflict zones are 90 per cent more likely to be out of school when compared to girls in conflict-free countries, compromising their future prospects for work and financial independence as adults.

Across the world, empowered girls are raising their voices to fight for their rights and protection in all contexts. They are working to end violence against women and girls, to recognize indigenous rights, and to build peaceful and cohesive communities.
