  • Talk To Steph: The Broke Guy or The Rich Man?

I’m 25 years-old and I’ve been in a relationship with a guy for a year now. He is not rich and doesn’t have a job but he is a website and Graphic designer and is still searching for jobs. I have been taking care of him and he stays with me but my parents don’t know he stays with me. He is God-fearing, loving and very humble but my parents do not like him because he doesn’t have money and because of his tribe too.
I met a 42 year-old married man with two kids and he is very wealthy and likes me. He wants to help me in life financially on condition that I go out with him(sex). His wife is in the UK and only visits four times in a year says the man. I told my parents about it because I was confused on what to do. But my parents want me to agree to the man.
I love my guy and he loves me too but friends keep saying my guy will leave me if he gets money or starts earning.
Please help me here. Should I listen to my parents and cheat on my guy by going out with a married man because of money? Or should I still stick to my guy and let this man go? What if my guy does leave when he starts earning and I never get another helper like this man? Or will my guy stay and will my parents like him if he gets money? I’m so confused now… Please I need advice.
    Thank you.
This message was sent in by Mariam. She sounds really confused and I can understand her dilemma.
I’d say this to you dear, in no way is it right to have any kind of affair with a married man. Run away from this man as fast as you can and make sure you have nothing to do with him.
Regarding your boyfriend, things could really get much better for him financially. Yes, some men have been known to leave their partners after getting some wealth, but that does not mean all men do so. You need to understand your boyfriend properly, and know the kind of person he is. Perhaps, he has some traits that makes you think he would do this to you. If there are any of such traits, you need to address them now and make a decision about your future so you don’t get badly burned.
I hope this helps and I sincerely wish you the very best.
SL Fabz, do you have any advice for Mariam? Drop it in the comments box.

  • Foodie Time: How To Prepare Yam Bolognese

Sounds interesting right? I found this specialty on 9jafoodie and I just had to try it out. It will do great for lunch or dinner.

Typically, Bolognese sauce is a meat-based Italian sauce served with pasta, but here we are doing it the yam way.

    Here is the recipe:
    Bolognese Sauce
    3 cups minced meat
½ teaspoon each (Ground- Ginger, garlic and pepper)
    Salt – to taste
    1 cubed spice
2 sprigs Green onions – chopped
    1 cup water
    1 tsp. flour

    Pan Roasted Yam
½ medium yam tuber (900g) – peeled, cubed and wash
    Salt – to taste
3 Tbsps. Coconut or vegetable oil
    ½ tsp ground pepper
1 small onion – thinly sliced
    1 cubed spice

    Directions

    1. In a pot, cover washed yam with water and set on medium-high heat. Boil for 15-18 minutes or until just fork-tender. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
    2. While yam is boiling, place another pot on high heat; add in minced meat, spices, salt, cubed spice, and chopped onion. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes or until meat is browned and cooked. Add in 1 cup of water and flour. Stir to combine. Remove from heat and set aside.
    4. Combine cooked yam with salt, pepper, and your desired spice
    5. Add oil to a skillet and heat until hot. Add yam. Allow the yam to brown underneath. Flip yam and brown on other side for 2-3 sides. Add in onions and stir-fry gently for another 2-3 minutes.
    6. Add sauce into cooked yam. Cover and simmer for 5 more minutes. Serve and enjoy.

So, would you love to try this?

  • 5 Ways To Feel Better Today

We all love to be happier, don’t we? But sometimes, things don’t always turn out the way we want them to.

Just in case your day is not turning out as good as you want it to, take a break and try one or more of these tips to make you feel better:

    1. List your accomplishments. Go on, write them down. Everything from winning the spelling bee to completing a project on time. Write down anything you can think of that you feel proud about. Look at you!

    2. Spend time with friends and family. Social time is highly valuable when it comes to improving our happiness, even for introverts. Several studies have found that time spent with friends and family makes a big difference to how happy we feel, generally.

    3. Fix your hair and make-up. When you look your best, you see yourself differently and that would surely make you feel better and more confident.

    4. Practice smiling – it can alleviate pain. Smiling itself can make us feel better, but it’s more effective when we back it up with positive thoughts.  A smile is also a good way to alleviate some of the pain we feel in troubling circumstances.

    5. Lift someone’s spirits. You can turn around bad feelings about yourself right away when you channel your energy into making someone feel good about themselves. It’s crazy how that works but it’s totally true.

I hope these few suggestions would help you feel better if you are perhaps feeling down.

SL Fabz, what do you to to boost your spirits, and make yourself feel better when you’re having a bad day?

  • Amazing Fact: Tomato Is A Fruit Not A Veggie

If you were asked, is Tomato a fruit or a vegetable, I’m sure you’d probably say a vegetable.
I thought so too before, but now I know better.
The confusion about ‘fruit’ and ‘vegetable’ arises because of the differences in usage between scientists and cooks. Scientifically speaking, a tomato is definitely a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant (though cultivated forms may be seedless). Blueberries, raspberries, and oranges are true fruits, and so are many kinds of nut.
However, the cooks have a different view, some things like tomatoes may be called ‘vegetables’, because they are used in savoury rather than sweet cooking.
So technically, tomato is the fruit of the tomato plant, but can be used as a vegetable in cooking.
Do you know of any other interesting facts?
  • “What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow”

Recently, eight men, including four Nigerians, were executed in Indonesia on allegations of drug related crimes. Australian Andrew Chan was one of them.

The news shook the entire world with many condemning the sentence of a death penalty carried out on these men. I do not in anyway support the death penalty and I think it should be totally abolished in every country.

Sadly, Andrew Chan is now dead, but before he died he wrote this letter to children in school, advising them not to follow his footsteps. I found it very inspiring and just had to share it here. The letter was read out by Chan himself, from inside his Indonesian prison cell, as part of a documentary made available to schools. After introducing himself, the Australian said:

Now the reason why I’m writing you this letter is to address you guys about the dangers of drugs and the effects it can have on you and also others. To tell you a little bit about my life story, I was once 15, 16 and it wasn’t too long ago I was sitting in a class just like you guys.
I was an average kid and let me tell you that my teachers didn’t like me one bit and I was no teacher’s pet. But to cut a long story short, I got mixed up with drugs at a pretty young age and by the time I was 15 I was merged into the scene.
I’ve done things which I am not proud of in my life and I’ve made some pretty silly decisions. My life is a perfect example of an absolute waste.
Now to elaborate the effects of where I am, I’ve missed weddings, I’ve missed funerals and the simple presence of my own family.
The hurt and pain – I don’t just put it onto myself, but the pain I put on my family is agonizing. A simple touch such as a hug is not possible for a condemned man like me. I have nothing but an iron bar to hug rather than to be embraced by those I love and who I miss.
What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow. If you want to be a thug and a big bad wolf, I’ll see you soon inside. But for those that want to do something in life I’d like you guys to see how important it is to put your head down and study hard.
I hope these words will penetrate in your minds and in your hearts and I hope that most of you, if not all of you, will achieve more than I ever did.

His message is very true. “What you choose today will make what you become tomorrow“. The choices you make today will determine how your tomorrow will be. Just like the proverb that says: “As you lay your bed, so you will lie on it”.

Again, this is not to celebrate his death, but to learn from one of the last messages he made to the world. I pray his soul rests in peace.

It is up to us to choose whether to make good or bad choices and I hope we all choose good ones for a better tomorrow.

    xoxo

  • So Sad…. Rest In Peace Peter Bunor

I woke up this morning to the sad news that my friend, the veteran actor Peter Bunor has passed on.

His son, Peter Bunor Jnr made the announcement on Facebook saying:

‘In the early hours of today, my father, friend, teacher, confidant passed on.’

This breaks my heart so much. I remember fondly the early days of my career and how much of a strong support he was. It was always a delight to work with him. I learnt so much from him and always felt at ease in his presence. Peter was never one to make anyone feel intimidated or uneasy; he was friendly, supportive and extremely talented.

    Nollywood has lost a veteran.

My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this huge loss.

May his soul rest in peace.

  • It’s Worker’s Day! Let’s Discuss Our Careers

Our careers are very important aspects of our lives.

Think about the daily struggles from working hard in a 9-to-5 job just to produce a paycheck. If we don’t get our work done, we can’t get paid, and if we don’t get paid, we can’t pay our bills, and if we don’t pay our bills, we can’t have a nice house, car and other fine things. The cycle goes on.

Or perhaps yours is a business or a project, not really a job. Whatever it is you do, it directly affects your ability to meet your needs and those of your loved ones.

Our work takes up a significant part of our day and has a significant impact on other aspects of our life, including our sense of self-worth and well being.

The question of happiness and fulfillment also comes to light in this subject. Is your career giving you the fulfillment you desire? Do you wish you were doing something else and not what you are presently doing? Does your career pay you well enough to meet your basic needs?

This is an open discussion. It’s worker’s day and I’d like to meet you dear SL Fabz. Tell me about what you do, whether you love what you do and how it affects your life.

    Let’s discuss!

  • INCREDIBLE! Four Month-Old Baby Rescued from Nepal Earthquake Rubble

Who said miracles don’t happen? That definitely is a big lie.

I saw these images today of a baby boy being pulled alive from the wreckage of the Nepal earthquake and it totally warmed my heart. In the midst of so much despair and disaster which has claimed at least 5,000 lives, this is something to rejoice about.

The four-month-old boy was pulled out alive, despite spending more than 22 hours trapped beneath the rubble.

According to news sources, the Military search teams had already scoured the area and moved on. But they returned after hearing a faint cry and began the process of carefully freeing the infant.

The boy was named locally as Sonit Awal and reported to be in stable condition.

    Great news!
